“"Just dinner at night but oh dear ......."”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2011

On Thursday evening the 26th May, my husband and I went for a meal. Impressed by the neatness and cleanliness of the bar also the comfort. Spoke to the chef about the menu, who was friendly and helpful. My starter was a three mushroom dish of which I got three small mushrooms and not much else. Husbands bowl of soup was excellent.

Our main courses of luxury fish pie was a disaster. The sauce was very thin like milky water and the potatoe topping just fell into it and dissolved to some extent. Plenty of fish but so spoilt. We did complain but was still charged the full amount, so £20 for our courses was a rip-off. We visit Amlwch but won't go there again.

Dear 503937Travellover,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your dining experience at the Bull Bay Hotel.

We are really sorry to hear that you did not enjoy our luxury fish pie as much as we would have liked. Upon receiving your feedback we made sure that the kitchen was aware of your experience so it will not happen again. We have gained a very good reputation for how fresh and tasty our seafood dishes are, in particular the locally caught crab and lobster.

We are really happy that you enjoyed the other dishes and the service provided. We do hope that you change your mind about visiting us again as the majority of our diners comment on how pleasant their experiences are and we would like that to be you too.

Once again, thank you for your review and we hope to welcome you back to the Bull Bay Hotel in the future.

Best Wishes,

Shane Phillips

we checked in for two nights and had the last available room, a large family room so plenty of wardrobe space. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and tidy. The staff are a hard working crew and helpful. Bull Bay is a lovely location and the hotel is close nough to the cove you could walk barefoot to it. Its quiet and not far from Amlwch a brisk walk or short drive. Locals are friendly nice bar atmosphere. We had an excellent evening meal and the breakfast is quality - no supermarket bacon here! Excellent terraced beer garden with views across the bay. Only minus and minor at that was we had two flights of staits to haul our luggage up but well worth it

Dear bluerabbitdeniro,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay at the Bull Bay Hotel.

Bull Bay is such a beautiful place that we all agree with you when you mention how lovely and peaceful it is. The locals are some of the nicest people you are ever likely to meet and it is credit to them why the place has such a wonderful atmosphere. The bay was so inviting this weekend with the sun shimmering off the waves that a few guests enjoyed a bit of kayaking.

We’re really pleased to hear of your excellent dining experience, as this is something we have been working hard towards. Where possible we use local suppliers and local produce and we’re really glad that this shown.

Look forward to seeing you again soon,

Best Wishes,

Shane Phillips

Had the great value golf trip referred to in previous posts. We had a friendly welcome and I thought the refurbished bar and dining room was well presented, however our room was a bit tired but the bed was comfy. The food was not great [the lamb was tough and the breakfast uninspired] but for what we paid we can't complain.Beer was good and the bar reasonably priced,so would possibly go again

Dear malcno,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your golf package at the Bull Bay Hotel.

We are really happy that you enjoyed your stay and our 2-day winter golf package. Even though this is a fabulous offer and great value for money there should be no lack of quality when it comes to your dining experience. Thank you for bringing it our attention so we can make sure that measures are put in place so it doesn’t happen again.

With regards to your room being tired I am happy to say that all of our bedrooms have now been redecorated and new carpet/flooring installed. This is part of our ongoing refurbishment scheme that we hope to make us one of the most desirable places to stay on the island. We are really happy that you enjoyed the newly refurbished bar lounge and dining room as this is the standard we are setting for the rest of the hotel.

Hope to see you again soon so you can enjoy the changes that have been made.

Best Wishes,

Shane Phillips

Six guys stayed at the Bull Bay 21st March for a 2 day golf tournament at the Bull Bay Golf course. Fantastic value £68 for bed breakfast and evening meal including 2 games of golf. The 3 course evening meal and breakfast were excellent and the room was clean and comfortable although they are in the middle of a refurbishment programme. The staff were very good and there was a good choice of food. Would definitely go back.
Great views over the bay.

Stayed at Bull Bay for two nights beginning of February 2011 with friends and had a great time. The hotel is in an excellent location on the Bay, with fantastic views out to sea. Food was delicious - we had breakfast and dinner on both days and could not fault the meals or the service we received. I had a very comfortable corner room with views across the Bay. The Hotel is in the course of being refurbished but this did not impact on us at all - I'm looking forward to going back later in the year to see the improvements. Highly recommended and excellent value for money.
