“Superb site spoilt by feral kids and foul mouthed adults.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

Booked this site due to it's location (30 seconds walk to the beach) and for the swimming pool for the kids. Unfortunately when booking we were informed the pool was out of action (pity), although we were told we coudl use Harlech baths free of charge. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the take away chippy was amazing!! Without doubt the best fish and chips I have ever had anywhere!
The onsite shop was very reasonable price wise, and again staff very friendly.
As others have mentioned the bridge entering the site is an experience to say the least (my wife closed her eyes!) but the kids thought it was very exciting! (cheaper than the rides in the fair in Barmouth). The facilities, club house and site in general were immaculate. The showers were hot (a bit too hot to be honest) and again very clean. The beach is superb and very clean with gorgeous white sand.
Now the negatives. I've been camping for 15 years so this isn't from a 'green' camper.
The complete lack of any member of staff periodically wandering around the site to check up on what people were upto is a real negative. The amount of feral kids roaming around this site at all hours using VERY graphic language has to be seen to be believed. Ball games are also banned on site according to the website, but in reality if you are regular you can pretty much do what you like without consequence. I had to have a polite word with large groups of kids on several occasions for bouncing a leather football off both the caravan and car. Eventually someone else must have complained as a young member of staff wandered over who addressed the kids by name (obviously regulars) and apologetically asked them to move to the beach as people making compaints 'were doing his head in!'
I'd heard people refer to this site as being overun by the Brummy Mafia. I dont care where people come from and don't like that tag, but the behaviour of some of the adults was worse than the kids. Men in their mid forties having belching competitions outside the bar (3pm in the afternoon) and swearing very loudly was not ideal.
So in conclusion, the site is superb, the complete lack of staff ensuring that a small few didn't ruin everyone elses break was dire.
Would I go back ? Maybe.

A lovely spot, scenery is amazing, and the park is ideally placed.
We stayed for a week, and found the place to be spotless, and clean.

Clubhouse appears to have been recently refurbished, and is kept nice clean and tidy. No problems with the people, and the entertainment was good, at least the bit we saw. Mr Sticks was good entertainment, and firm but patient with the kids.

There is a swimming pool, which we did not use, but looks clean and there is a cafe attached, ideal if you want to keep an eye on the kiddies but not go in yourself.

Beach is fantastic, and would recommend this place for people with young kids, or anyone who just loves nice scenery.

Onsite there is a reasonably priced cafe, but the ~chippie~ does marvellous chips, some of the best we have had in ages.

Beer is £3.20 a pint in the club, which is par for the course in these places, but overall a nice ambience.
We would recommend this place to anyone.

There has to be a downside to anywhere, and the following in our opinion let this site down.
Bearing in mind, that some of the information is direct from the caravan owners onsite, whom we got talking to.

Firstly, the reception staff, whilst not unfriendly, are most certainly not the friendliest of people. we got the impression that we were a number rather than a customer. Speaking to people onsite whom were owners of the caravans, said that once they had your money then customer service went out of the window. So my instinct proved correct.

Secondly, we bought an internet card,, to research some of the attractions we wanted to see... what a fiasco....
We could not connect for love nor money, and when eventually we did, it was impossible to browse the internet, due to a rubbish service. We got connected for about 10 mins to the yahoo page, and that is as far as we got... in 2 days.
When I went to complain, and ask for my £10 back, they accused me of using the internet for over 8 hours.... I felt like a dishonest person asking for my money back. Not good customer service.
Speaking to the person who supplies the internet connection for the site,, his own words were..... IF YOU CAN GET AN INTERNET CONNECTION AT EASTER ON THIS SITE, IT WILL BE A MIRACLE....... i was forced by reception to phone him, because they disavowed all responsibility for the internet...
Eventually got our money back, but not so much as a smile from any of the receptionists... and for the record, they had to refund lots of customers onsite,, they were just trying to fob me off and hope I would not take it further.

I assume they are not bothered over customer service, because as one owner was told, WE CAN SELL ANY OF THESE CARAVANS ON, WE HAVE PEOPLE WAITING,,, when they kicked a load of families off for fighting a while back.

Lastly,,, would I go back,,,, yes, but at least I know not to purchase an internet card, or expect friendly service from reception staff.
Hoping this has helped in some way,,, and enjoy if you do go...

On reading the above review I felt compelled to respond as a regular visitor to 'Sunny Sands'. OK - it is fair to say that many of the owners who stay at the park are brummies and what you might call 'salt of the earth' types - or even 'chavs' if you want to be judgmental. However - the real point is that you would go a long way to find a better site for families - it is virtually on the beach - the Blue Flag Cardigan Bay beach is spotlessly clean and safe for children - you can wade out for 100 yards and still be upto your waist. Lots of rock pools and safe sea water inlets for small children to discover the beach in a safe environment.
The site has an excellent swimming pool if the weather is less than great. Personally I would choose to stay at the top end of the site which is quiet, yards from the beach and away from the clubhouse if you do not wish to participate in the Saturday night party atmosphere.
Have just returned from 4th visit to the park, watched my 2 children play in the sands and dodge waves and walked hand in hand with my hubby watching the most amazing red sunset. Beat that! OK, so some of the people here are a bit rough and ready - get over it and see this place for what it is - a real gem!

Room Tip: Stay at the top end of the site if you prefer it to be quieter - it's just yards from the beach!

If you're idea of a caravan park is caravans with enough outside space to park your car, bouncers on the clubhouse door, families that leave their rubbish on the beach for other people to sort out, and lots of football shirts and tattoos then this park is for you.

That's the negatives, however the positives are that the caravan(s) where very clean and the staff very helpful.

When we woke one morning to find raw sewage pouring out of the drain in our caravan's little garden, we were moved to a sea front caravan as soon as we complained. No hassle no fuss.

This park has it's place, but for us we prefer somewhere smaller with more outside space surrounding the caravans where the children can play (the second caravan we were moved to had a balcony, but was surrounded by gravel)

After driving around barmouth and the local area we came across some lovely little campsites, so i would certainly recommend shopping around before booking (however, if you are a chav, please feel free to go to sunny sands and leave the nicer campsites for the rest of us)
