“No complaints about the standard of the food BUT amazingly unweloming staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Vistied the restaurant for Sunday lunch in a group of 21 (10 adults and 11 children). Will say from the start that the food was lovely BUT were rushed from the moment we entered to ensure we were out by 13:30 for the next Sunday lunch sitting. It wouldn't be so bad if this was a gentle request at the start of what we hoped would be a memorable group meal but ieating lunch with a waitress hovering over your tables and being badgered to eat your food by a strict deadline makes for memories of another sort. Disliked the fact that staff were clearing plates from the table whilst some of the group was still eating - incredibly rude! We may have had time to eat our food "in good time" if they had managed to serve the children's meals we had ordered together at the same time. Instead they brought out 2 meals at a time every 5 minutes so that the whole party was eating at staggered time. THis restaurant has been a high talking point this holiday but for all the wrong reasons. If you want to go here then remember the parting comments of one of the children in our party: "why did the lady say i couldn't leave until i had picked up all the peas off the floor?" Will not be recommending,

Took the little woman to the george on the off chance without booking . Could not fault the service or the food, both were excellant. The staff were very friendly and could not do too much for us and the food, must be the best in the area ,we will definetly go again.

Another superb stay at King George III for us. Great value and quality food. Location stunning and friendly locals. Only disappointment was the cold welcome upon our check-in and suggest that visitors need to warmly welcomed. Otherwise another great stay for us from New Zealand.

Every few years we try the restaurant thinking, surely it can't STILL be as dreadful as it used to be! At least they're consistent. Last Sunday will be the last time I step into this place. A shame as the location is just incredible. The owners and management don't deserve such a spot!
Let's start with the welcome. "Next!" was as close as we got to a "hello" from the barman who, and there is no polite way of saying this, reeked of body odour. "You'll have to wait, the kitchen's busy" was the next response. It wasn't just us, he was snappy and vile to everyone. He also proceeded to hack and cough all over the glasses, bar and patrons. Really should have left at this point but as your money is taken up front (it's now very clear why!) we braved the carvery. The meat was mostly fat and gristle, stone cold yorkshire puddings, and vegetables that looked and tasted like dirty dishwater.
Unfortunately in this part of the country poor customer service and a complete lack of any warm, friendly welcome is pretty much the norm, but I can honestly say I have never had a worse meal than last Sunday. At £9.95 for one small course it's not even particularly good value compared to other, MUCH better, restaurants in the area. The food was just inedible and the hospitality shocking so we left, never to return!

As regular visitors we decided to this year to have Christmas Lunch here and was not disappointed. Attentive, friendly staff and the most delicious hot food. The choice was endless. There was only one sitting so the table was yours for as long as you wanted. Excellent atmosphere. My husband and I would like to thank Jim and all the wonderful staff a big thank you for making us welcome each and every time. Well Done.

Booked a room (room 4) in the main hotel to enjoy the view and we were not disappointed - we watched Goosanders feeding from our four poster bed (did not think that I would ever write that!). We were so impressed by the food that we ate once in the restaurant and twice in the Dresser Bar and the food was excellent and great value every time. The Guest Lounge with open fire was very comfortable and the view from the restaurant at breakfast was excellent. The staff were attentive (without being pushy) and made us feel very welcome. The Cellar Bar is separate to the main hotel and always seemed busy catering for the cyclists and walkers. A great location and top service; we will return.

Room Tip: At busy times book your table in the restaurant early.

Went downstairs for a meal, nowhere else about to be honest as we were staying just up the road. The bar was ok by the fire but freezing in the other room! Sticky tables are a particular issue with me and they were in abundance here. The menus were grubby photo-copied affairs plonked on the bar but just about readable. The beer was good (Snowdonia Ale) and, to be fair, the food that came was very nice. There was certainly plenty of it but the quality was reasonable too. Fantastic location but at this time of year, a few more coals on the fire would have been good. Doesn't help having to go outside to the toilet which (incidentally) seemed to be where the food came from - outside, not the toilet before anyone asks!

Overall I would probably go back if hungry but may look further afield for alternatives first.
