“cheap but dated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Room 101 is very noisy over the kitchen bar extractors. They do go off about 1am but on again at 6am. bit like sleeping on a plane.
The wetherspoon next door is as expected. Good value for money good breakfast (served in beer garden for smokers)
Bathroom dated, no grab handles, shower off mixer taps (careful not to scold yourself)
No toilet brush
Expected better from wetherspoons
It is value for money

“Poor standards”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We entered this Wetherspoons pub hoping to find a table for our evening meal. Whilst the pub was very busy there were about half a dozen tables not occupied. Unfortunately none of them had been cleared and there was cutlery, dirty plates and glasses everywhere, ketchup stains and chips on the floor and tablecloth!! We were so disgusted we walked out again in frustration giving the harrassed bar staff a dirty look as we went!! If these places want to get a good reputation they need to employ sufficient staff to run the place properly. By the way we weren't the only ones looking for a clean table ! Sort them out Wetherspoons they ar ruining your reputation !

“Don't know how they do it for the price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013 via mobile

This is our regular cheap and cheerful venue when shopping in Monmouth. We have had weekday lunches, Sunday lunches and breakfasts on many occasions and for the price the food is very good, I particularly like the Eggs Benedict and my partner says the steaks are usually pretty good and he adores the large breakfast.
It's never going to be a 'fine dining' experience but we have eaten far inferior meals at twice the price in many other establishments.Staff are friendly and apart from during very busy periods service is speedy and the place is clean.

“Cheap and Cheerful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

It's a Wetherspoons, so we are never going to be talking Michelin stars. For a Monday night in April the place was quiet busy. Nice big good looking pub, with plenty characters and space for families. We had the chicken burger and Welsh f@ggots and mash. Both perfectly fine, very tasty and came quickly. There was a beer festival on at the time and the standard of the real ales was most excellent indeed. All in all a very pleasant and exceptionally good value experience.

“Never coming here again, poor service, gloomy hole”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

We planned on having a meal for my mother's 65th birthday and chose this Wetherspoons instead of the one at Ross-On-Wye. Big mistake. The steaks we ordered were full of blood after asking for them to be 'very well done'. The place could do with a refurb, and that goes for the staff too, who are the most miserable, dour employees I have experienced at Wetherspoons.
