“Attended a party at the is venuw”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Attended a 60th birthday party in the upstairs room.

The room was great for the event. Big enough for a live band, with a dance floor, and enough room for around 80/100 people.

Staff at the bar were quick to serve us and friendly.

I think this a popular pub in the area, from what we were told.

“take a 100 yard walk around the block...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We went into Monmouth shopping and decided to have a bar meal for a change. We had decided to go to Weatherspoon’s, which I know is nothing special but it’s cheap, convenient and would suffice for a quick lunch. We saw the sign for this place whilst walking up the main street, as we’ve never been before we thought we’d give it try – big mistake! The place itself was clean and tidy and the staff friendly. However both of our meals were of the variety that you get in any of the major pub chains ie pre-packed rubbish that just needs heating up in the oven or microwave, or at least if they weren’t then the chef managed to create that affect. Unfortunately to make it worse both of ours were overcooked - or should I say over heated. Like another reviewer my chips were of a uniform brown colour (possibly sprayed on?) and were all but dried out, as was my plaice. My wife had a beef pie, the sort you get in these places where the pastry top rises very high. The only good thing was although well over cooked/reheated for most tastes my wife likes her meat very well done and there was plenty of it. Her carrots however were all but dried out and were like bullets – she put them in the pie in an attempt to soften them up a bit. There was a pump on the bar for Felinfoel beer. I assumed this was a real beer, only to be served a chilled plastic/fizzy beer… again if it was real they managed to create the effect of brewery chain fizzy beers that some of us only use to catch slugs. If memory serves me well up until a few years ago this used to be part of The Kings Head… which brings me to the title of this review – next time we decide to have lunch out when shopping we’ll take a 100 yard walk around the block, the food will be no worse, the beer will be far better and it will cost less

“Little gem hidden away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013 via mobile

Visiting relatives in Monmouth found this place by accident as I had forgotten it was there. Excellent home cooked food using local produce. The daily specials are varied with a good selection of fish dishes. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the puddings were yummy. The staff are really friendly including the chef. They also serve snacks light meals and cream teas during the day but they will have to wait for our next visit.

“Delightful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

We eat at The Coach House on a regular basis and although it is a little 'Fawlty Towers-ish' (those who have eaten there will know what I mean!) it is a delightful little restaurant with a lovely flower filled courtyard away from the hustle and bustle of the town. A family business, run by Derek and Sandra and a handful of regular staff, you can be assured of a warm welcome. Service can be a bit hit and miss but it always comes right in the end and there is never any pressure to move on. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and good basic food - what more can I say.
