“Request one of the larger rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2011

Unfortunately we failed to request a larger room. Room 302 although quiet and cosy was not well appointed and bordered on the claustrophobic. It was a "small" double bed and sank in the middle. We did not know you could get a room on a Sunday for £30 either.

The food in the pub however was the best we have ever eaten in any Wetherspoons. As a previous contributor said, "someone cares" and yes it shows.

The towns of Abergavenny and Blaenaron worth a visit too and have a high road connecting them which is worth a drive over. Lovely scenery.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger (better) room - costs no more.

Wasn't impressed by this hotel the room was dark and unkept. The basics where not right in terms of decor. The bathroom was not modern and poor quality. I did pass on my comments on return to whether spoons and little was noted. The food in the adjoining pub was great but I expect that from a good chain. Sorry they did not win me overhand will stick with premier inn

This was our second visit to this Wetherlodge and once again had no complaints. The receptionist checked us in efficiently and was very friendly. The room was excellent for the price. The bed is large and comfortable with extra pillows available if needed. The room was large, warm and perfectly clean with tea and coffee making facilities and even had complimentary bottled water. The food and service in the pub were typical of the wetherspoons chain.

A lovely old-worldly hotel with a comfortable room and nice ensuite bathroom. The staff is friendly and the bar very atmospheric.

I had reservations about booking a room in a Wetherspoons lodge as I expected it to be a bit shabby and was worried about noise from the pub. Couldn't have been more wrong, the room was up to any 3 star hotel standards, clean and nicely furnished with a very comfortable bed. the bathroom could have done with a lick of paint but the shower was wonderful. We were in room 101 at the back of the hotel and couldn't hear any noise at all.

I'd like to thank the staff for excellent customer service. I phoned to request a late check in and the receptionist could not have been more helpful we had to check in at the Wetherspoons pub next door as it was almost midnight when we arrived but instead of having to queue at the bar with the Saturday night crowd the manager came across to us when he saw us struggling with our bags and took us straight over to the hotel. Very helpful.

A great value breakfast is available in the pub from 7am and the service there was very quick as well.

Didn't know what to expect from a Wetherlodge but was very pleasantly surprised. Had a well appointed double room at the front of the hotel overlooking Agincourt Sq. Breakfast was £3.10 in the pub below, bargain! Excellent curry in the Misbah up the road.
