“Dog friendly stay in lovely riverside country pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We had a two night weekend break at the Victoria and took our dog, the room was lovely (room 4 I think) overlooking the side road, quiet, huge comfy bed. The garden was very busy but we found a good table and food was served quickly once we ordered it, good value pub food and good selection of beers and wines. Service was very friendly by everyone we met from the lady who checked us in (when we arrived early at 11.30) to the young man behind the bar who served us our first drinks and enquired how we liked our room, and the staff at breakfast. We had a lovely stay and will visit again.

Room Tip: there are only a few rooms but perhaps those overlooking the garden might be noisy in summer, otherw...

we are local and been to many different places and this meal was by FAR the worst! We are easily pleased but even this was very poor ! We called ahead and was advised no need to book, we arrive and go to the bar, not advised to go to the restaurant but when ordering we were advised we will pay more for the same thing in the bar than the restaurant which is literally 30 feet away from the bar. AFTER WE HAD PAID... So I check the restaurant.. 3 couples in the room, I was told we must book so I said I'll go outside and call them to be told they were full !!! The meal arrived shortly followed by the cutlery, then the veg... it was served on a TEA PLATE... Soggy and squashed like they'd been stacked on each other. Offered no sauces, meat was cold unless it had hot gravy on it. Meal was 2 slices of meat, few new potatoes, oven frozen type roasties. Frozen style sliced carrots, tinned peas and orange sludge swede... anyway you get the picture... oh and a few table spoons of gravy. £9.75 (I think) and the pop for the kids was out of a normal pop bottle... waste of £50... This seem harsh but I assure you we don't normally write such a review but it really was terrible and we only live 10 miles from there.

Stopped off here after a day out with family in Barmouth for drinks and a bite to eat and it is a well maintained place right next to a small river. Drinks seemed competitively priced and service was okay. Everything clean and tidy inside and out with the only downside being we had to sit away from the other diners due to lack of space. All in all a satisfactory stop off.

Ones main aim when going into a pub is to have a drink, sadly on my visit two of the three real ales were off. Not being deterred, we decided to sample a lager and order a meal. For some reason the kitchen was closed, due to too many orders, on enquiring, when it might 'open' again, we we told quite bluntly by the landlord, 'when they're ready to open it again'
Absolutely terrible customer service, sorry if we were an inconvenience to your business.
Won't be returning!

my family and i went on the 4th june 2013
we went to the bar and started reading out the food on the specials board- to be told whilst we were reading it out to one another that they didn't have it on the menu!! why not rub it out when you run out of supplies?
so we took a look at the standard menu and again we started reading out food on that one to be told very much the same.
so we all left,
such a shame as was a lovely day outside and would have stayed for quite a while.

We stayed at the Victoria several nights and largely enjoyed ourselves.
The Victoria is a pub with bedrooms and the rooms are decorated to a high standard.
The pub is hugely successful and was full every evening between 6pm and 9pm, I imagine that they serve about 100 meals in an evening, with more on a really busy day. The food is good honest stuff and plenty of it. The Robinson's beer is satisfactory at best.

Breakfast was slow but very good and passed the quality bacon test.

The staff are excellent and they dealt very well with a couple of problems that we had.

Room Tip: Rooms 4 and 5 overlook a side road and so are slightly quieter

We'd decided to stay at The Victoria for a couple of days and do some hard trekking up on the mountains.
We've always intended to stay there for many years and when the time came we were ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED with one exception - restaurant management.

We booked a table for dinner after a gruelling day on Saturday in the restaurant. My partner was stuck in an alcove and the table itself was in a corner with little room. We decided to move to the cheerful bar where we enjoyed our meal.
On Sunday morning we had the restaurant for breakfast except all guests were crammed onto one side of the dining room .......again with little space beteen tables -----the remainder of the restaurant was unused.
A little common sense and foresight could have saved this blip on an otherwise joyous weekend away.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent ensuite newly re-furbished
