“A very Happy birthday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

After much searching and with a wedding in North Wales immediately afterwards, I had a hard time finding something perfect for my Boyfriend's birthday this year. Determined to make it as special as possible, I chanced upon Ffynon on Tripadvisor. The reviews were very positive and the rooms looked lovely.

I emailed Debra and Steve (the owners) to let them know about our arrival and if there was any advice they could provide to make the birthday special. They were absolutely fabulous, no request was too small and they were patient with my constant emails about the birthday with details I kept forgetting.

When we arrived, we were greeted with a lovely cup of tea and some delicious bara brith. The next day, my boyfriend was surprised with a birthday breakfast which was such a lovely touch - and something I hadn't requested. We stayed in Hazel which was absolutely beautiful, exceptionally clean and more of an apartment than a room. The whole experience was just beautiful and it was the best birthday either of us have enjoyed!

Thank you so much for a lovely stay, I cannot recommend Ffynon enough - there is everything for people with young children, couples - it felt like home.

A wonderful place, it must be visited. It will truly change your expectations of a guest house!

Room Tip: All the rooms were wonderful but Hazel is lovely if you like having an area to watch TV and a separa...

We arrived at the Ffynnon early and found the B&B up a surprisingly narrow, steep road, which was fun. The note on the door did tell us that we couldn't check-in until 4.00 pm, (which I then vaguely remembered reading on the confirmation email. Oops). Not to be thwarted we found the wonderful TH Roberts coffee shop for the biggest piece of home-made cake with our coffees. Yum.

Back at the B&B we were shown around by Emma, the very friendly Manageress, who was happy to show us all the rooms that weren't yet occupied. Wow! What a wonderful place.

We felt that this was a lovely hotel, and we had a very pleasant room with a great bed and large bathroom. Being in such a quiet village as Dolgellau we slept very soundly. The intermittent hotel wi-fi was a blessing really, as was the well stocked honesty bar and DVD selection. We wondered if the TV could have been of a more substantial size, although we weren't in the room that much and maybe we shouldn't be wasting our lives watching the telly.

The room we had (called Aimmee) came complete with Jacuzzi bath, but our only negative comment was that the sealant of the bath surround was mildewed, and appeared to have been that way for some time as more sealant had been applied, over the mould. At the price we'd paid this was quite a disappointment, although we were told the room was being taken out of use over the next few days for this problem to be resolved. Sadly that didn't help us, which is the only reason this review hasn't achieved the full 5 stars. We did feel that a comment on checking-in (along with a complimentary bottle of wine?) could have pro-actively smoothed out that issue.

Apart from that the fact that the house was full was never noticeable. Clearly the thick walls ensure that any noise is not heard within the bedrooms. The lounge was a lovely place to relax and the breakfasts were great.

We'd suggest the addition of a drying room would be very useful. We stayed in October, so we did expect the Welsh weather, but we found that we had nowhere to effectively dry our wet gear. The heating seemed to be off more often than on, which wasn't a problem in such mild weather, but did make drying out harder than expected.

We don't wish to gripe or to only sound negative. This is a stunning B&B in a great location, with very friendly and efficient staff, but to be quite frank at the price we're surprised we have any complaints.

Dear Michael,
We're pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and, as discussed, the slight mildewing in Aimee was dealt with immediately after your departure - it was a recent issue and had not been there long.
We do have a room where we can dry wet clothes but we are currently in the process of making it proper drying room and downstairs toilet - it should be finished within the next few weeks.
Many thanks for your review and we hope to see you again soon.
Regards,
Steve

Just back from a three night chill-out break in Snowdonia National Park.
Neither of us had ever been to Wales before and now I wonder why not! Fabulous beaches and stunning mountain scenery. We chose Ffynnon Town House after reading an article in a magazine and we were not disappointed.
It's a beautiful old detached house (former nursing home I think) which the owners have obviously spent lots of thought and time refurbishing to it's present standard. It's beautifully furnished with a liberal sprinkling of objects d'art by a local artist.
There was a warm welcome by owners Debra & Steve followed by tea and Welsh cakes in the lounge. The other staff members are really friendly and will genuinely try to make your stay as comfortable and as memorable as possible.
Breakfast is a wide selection of cereals, fresh fruit and locally produced preserves and a great selection from the made to order hot menu. Unfortunately, I didn't get past the superb 'Welsh Breakfast' for three mornings in a row, so can't comment on the rest of the menu :-)
Dolgellau is a small quiet town with not a lot going on if you're not into walking, climbing or cycling. I would recommend the cycle ride down the Mawddach Estuary to Barmouth. (Cycle hire available from a very nice man at Dolgellau Cycles in the town). It's an 18 mile round trip but not as hard as you think as it's very flat being an old railway-line, but it does have some fabulous views of the estuary.
There are various places to eat out to suit all tastes and pockets. You'll get a nice pint and pub grub in the The Royal Ship in town. The Bwyty Mawddach is a glass fronted restaurant with stunning views and good food (book in advance), and the Y Sospan is a cosy little bistro in the centre of town with good food and a warm welcome. Oh and if you have room you must try the lemon meringue pie at T H Roberts coffee shop in the town.
Highly recommend Fynnon Town House - you will not be disappointed.

We had 3 hard days cycling and walking on the mountains and its was fantastic to come back to such a luxurious place. Eating out was simple as there are plenty of places a short walk away in Dolgellau.
The breakfast was insurpassable and we could not fault the hospitality.
So if you are up for some excellent time in the hills then stay here and you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: 'Sydney' was just so cosy but as the photos show they are all amazing!

After a full day of riding our bikes through the fabulous Snowdonia National Park we always look forward to a good hotel, hot showers....or in my case a Jacuzzi bath (even better), perfect service and a friendly welcome. Too old for camping now! Steve met us as we parked our bikes outside his Boutique Hotel, showed us around and could not have been a better host. There was nothing that was too much trouble. Rooms are clean, warm, comfortable in fact the whole hotel just shouts 'welcome'. This should have a five star rating, not just for the quality standards throughout but the breakfast is to die for! This is the place to stay if you come to North Wales!

Ffynnon is a fabulous B&B very luxurious and in a great location for touring around the Snowdonia National Park. The house is beautifully decorated & we had a warm welcome with tea/coffee in the guest lounge. Our room was large, comfortable and the decor amazing. The breakfast menu offered was very comprehensive and very good - especially the local welsh yoghurts,. that were delicious!

If you want luxury and something special look no further,.

Room Tip: We stayed in the gothic room at the back of the property and it was so quiet you wouldn't believ...

One look at Ffynnon and we booked our trip to Dolgellau. We had never seen a B&B so chic! It has all the personal attention and touches of the coziest inn but also the sophistication of a five-star hotel. We adored our stay here, from to-die-for breakfasts, great chats with the owners, afternoon tea by the fireplace, to a stunning suite that we absolutely reveled in. Thank you Debra & Steve for incredible honeymoon stay!

Room Tip: They are all truly beautiful but we adored Hazel, a very private, contemporary cool suite on the top...
