“So good we returned 3 times”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

The friendly staff, and delicious food more than made up for the rather outdated appearance. We w ere a party of 5 adults. One tried to work his way through the beer list. Thetre French waiter was extremely helpful. The Chef was happy to chat about the menu. We were all happy with the experience. Lamb shank was a treat. Fish delicious. Steak and ale pie tasty. Hough was both plentiful and a real treat.

“A Tired Place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Enjoyed the meal, service was good, Staff were really friendly, but the place was really tired, decoration was drab . Sort of when you go to Greece, they say 4 star and you know its really 2 star. To be fair , we turned up with no reservation but they sorted us out, so I shouldn't really complain. To be fair, I would go there again.

“Lovely menu and meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

We ate here at the weekend, although a little old fashioned and drab in the inside the menu was lovely and we were spoilt for choice, the staff really friendly and helpful. Food arrived I had steak and ale pie with mash and fresh green veg it was delicious felt homemade in a good way! Husband had lamb which he said was really good. Only downside was my dessert I had apple tart tatain but when I bit into it it was incredibly bitter I thought it was just the apples so tried the pastry and that was the same it was completely in edible and I had to leave it, I think the staff knew there something wrong as the wouldn't come and clear it away till we had left.

“Poor dining”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

Four of us booked in for a family meal
We ordered a ham hock, beef strogenoff, fish and chips and a chicken in sauce
We ordered drinks on being seated
After half an hour waiting with no drinks or waiter to take our food order we were served the drinks after a visit to the bar to remind them of our presence
After a further 20 mins the food came the ham hock was raw the strogenoff was as hard as bullets the other meals were acceptable
We sent back the two mains without apology or explanation from the waiter or management they presented us with the bill less the two meal cost
It doesn't seem to matter what service or quality they give," it's only tourists" which we aren't
Two of us went home hungry

Dear Friog

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We value all feedback received as it allows us to grow and improve our business. I can only apologise that your experience was so poor on this occasion. We pride ourselves on providing well cooked delicious dishes at reasonable prices and as such your experience has fallen significantly below our usual standards. Our guests usually rate our service and food quality an average of 4.5 out of 5 on our customer feedback cards. The Ham Hock and Battered Haddock are particular favourites off our standard menu. We would ask that you don’t hold this isolated incident against us and would consider returning to the hotel in the near future. Please contact the hotel to discuss this and we would be delighted to offer 25% off your next meal with us.
