“Perfect wedding venue!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

We got married here in April 2015 and had a perfect day.

STAFF -

We’d like to thank all of the staff at Northop Hall who were involved on our wedding day. We appreciate all the hard work that went on behind the scenes. However, special mentions must go to two people…

Dot, the wedding co-ordinator is brilliant. From the moment we first met her, she has been so helpful and always there to offer advice. She is so easy to talk to and she helped our plans become a reality.

Sam, the Master of Ceremonies was great. The day flowed seamlessly thanks to his efforts. I lost my cravat during the evening reception but luckily Sam had found it and put it safe behind the bar for me. He even bought me and my new wife a Jaegermeister towards the end of the night!

FOOD -

The wedding breakfast was absolutely beautiful. Chicken liver pate for starters, a roast beef main followed by vanilla cheesecake. Some of the finest food we have experienced in the local area.

The evening buffet was plentiful and also good quality.

The morning breakfast was also very tasty. Bacon, sausages, egg, hash browns etc for guests to help themselves to and also a selection of pastries and cereals.

DJ -

The in-house DJ - Pete at Your Choice Discos - was superb. We provided him with a full playlist a week before the wedding and he managed to get hold of every song for us.

FLOWERS -

Our wedding flowers were arranged by Stems, a local firm who work closely with the hotel. These were great value for what we received. They arrived on time as promised and looked great on the photos.

ROOM -

As the Bride and Groom, we stayed in the Bridal Suite (room 101). This is a big room with a comfortable four-poster bed and a great view over the gardens at the front of the house.

This is a country house hotel, so do not expect modern luxeries but instead you will find a hotel with character and great service!

Thank you to everyone at Northop Hall for making our wedding day perfect - we literally couldn’t have asked for anything more!

Room Tip: Stayed in the Bridal Suite (Room 101) - great view over the gardens, big room with comfortable four...

The staff here were excellent, but the rooms, decor and overall feeling of the hotel was very tired with urgent need of an update.
The bar menu was limited and overpriced, didnt contemplate eating in the main dining room as put off by prices. The guiness was expensive, warm and flat!! I really struggled to pick up any wi-fi signal. Very poor reception.
Not really a hotel Id recommend. Disappointing.

Room Tip: Look at other alternatives.

This is a beautiful looking hotel in a beautiful setting but I have to say that the room I stayed in was very tired and that a premier inn room is just as good. If you can cope with creaking floorboards and a squeaking shower you will be fine.

On the plus side the staff were all lovely and couldn't do enough to help.

I ate in the bar in the evening as on my own but felt that the menu was very limited. However breakfast in the restaurant could not be faulted, excellent choice and beautifully cooked.

This hotel is really impressive as you arrive the grounds are lovely and the facade is quite grand, we checked in and were greeted by happy friendly staff. There is a lovely central staircase leading to the rooms, we were put into a nice room which faced onto a small courtyard but we asked if we could be moved to a room with more of a view.this was promptly done and the room we were given was on the front of the hotel looking onto the garden which was lovely. The rooms are a bit tired but I think that the staff more than make up for it. They made some great recommendations for dinner in a nearby village/town and rang a taxi for me. I lost a necklace whilst having drinks in the garden and remarkably when I enquired at reception hey presto someone had handed it in which put the cherry on top.on the first morning breakfast was buffet style and the dining room was very busy good standard of breakfast and once again great staff. On the second morning it was much quieter and breakfast was alacarte I opted for eggs Benedict but requested vegetarian so no ham they were very accommodating and it was lovely my husband chose full Welsh breakfast with poached eggs really generous portion and high standard ingredients. Great experience thank you to all the staff.

Room Tip: Front facing rooms have good views of garden

Dear kellesbells,

Thank you for your review following your recent visit to Northop Hall, I was pleased you enjoyed your visit, and the team here looked after you. I was aware of the request to change rooms, the first room allocated to you has been refurbished, however the room overlooking the gardens is due to be refurbed in the near future, as we have a rolling programme of a room a month to be completed.

As you know we were busy over the Easter weekend, and at busy times we do serve breakfast buffet style, however we do offer cooked to order at all times if guests prefer a more leisurely breakfast, I was pleased to see you enjoyed both styles of service.

I was also pleased you enjoyed visiting local eateries that we recommended - I hope when you visit in the future you will try our Chequers Restaurant, which will save leaving the hotel for meals, we have a great selection of fresh seasonal local produce, prepared and served by the Team here.

Once again thank you for taking the time to post your great review - we're pleased you had a 'Great Experience'.

We look forward to welcoming you on future visits to North Wales.

Kind regards,

Tony Holland

Tucked away in beautiful grounds this hotel is a lovely and inexpensive escape. The double room featured a four poster bed, a fantastic hot shower, TV, kettle, breakfast and free WiFi. It was very clean and relaxing.

Nice location we stayed whilst doing some local walks. For the price the hotel is fine the room decor was a bit dated 3 clashing patterns! if you spend a bit more to stay in the older part of the hotel i am sure you would get a better decorated room but we wanted cheap and that's what we got. The hotel staff were friendly, the car park had plenty of space and it seemed like people were staying with dogs so if you are looking for a dog friendly hotel this could be a good place, equally if you are allergic to dogs maybe not the hotel for you.

Dear Lucy L

Thank you for your review following your recent visit. I was pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and found our rates are good value, and most importantly our team looked after you.
I am not sure which room you occupied, but will try to work out where we have clashing patterns? We are currently refurbishing many of our bedrooms, which includes decorating, replacing beds / carpets and soft furnishings - 4 rooms completed so far this year and continuing at a room a month.
We are pet friendly and welcome well behaved dogs, and our reception and housekeeping team do make a special note of rooms that will need additional cleaning after being occupied by guests
dogs - we also require prior warning of guests with dogs.
Once again many thanks for taking the time to place your review - we look forward to welcoming you on future visits to North Wales, when I hope you will see we're continually improving our property.

Kind regards,

Tony Holland

We spent two nights here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The first night we had the bridal suite, the room was so hot we could hardly breathe. We turned the radiators off and kept the windows open all night, but the heat was still stifling and prevented a good nights sleep. The second night, we transferred to a twin room, at the rear of the property. We hadnt realised at the time of booking, that guests are encouraged to use the fire door at the back as an alternative main entrance. There was a constant stream of rowdy, drunk guests filtering in and out of this door (which was directly next to our room) until 5 am - they would keep the door wedged open with a rock, so that entrance could be gained from the outside. When there were no guests using the door, the wind would catch the door, causing it to slam against the rock repeatedly. This was an appalling situation on many levels. I was promised a call from the Manager, but it didnt happen. The venue is nice enough, and the staff "appear" attentive, until you actually need something. We would never stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter, but incredibly hot. Stay away from and ground floor rooms from 301 onward...

Dear Angela,

We were sorry to read that you experienced some problems last weekend whilst staying to celebrate your anniversary.

Firstly I totally understand that a warm room is not to everyone's liking as I also prefer to sleep in a room with the window open - getting the heating right to suit everybody is difficult, especially at this time of year when the temperature varies every daily.

I have looked at your reservation and believe you initially booked for one night - then asked for the second night and were advised we had a wedding taking place so the Bridal suite would not be available - and as we were nearly full on the second night due to wedding guests staying we only had twin bedded rooms left.

The door that guests were using was open during the day and should be closed at night for security - as we had a guest staying that needed ground floor access as they were a wheel chair user, so gained access via the fire exit to the car park. Despite repeated attempts by our night porter and duty manager to close the exit, guests continued to open the fire exit for access and of course we cannot lock an escape route.

I also understand our staff made repeated attempts to ask guests to consider other people staying that were trying to sleep.

In conclusion I believe our staff did all they could to reduce disturbance from Wedding guests, who showed no consideration for other guests, which is a shame.

Thank you for your review and we are sorry you did not enjoy your visit on this occasion.

Kind regards

Tony Holland
