We visited Tyddyn Llan for one evening while staying in North Wales recently. It was our "posh night out" during our week for a "blow the expense" evening meal. We expected all the hallmarks of fine dining and they were all there... smart polite friendly staff, amuse bouche and drinks in the sitting room with the menus, elegant dining room and excellent food. The bill at the end of the evening was large but we knew it would be and were fine with that.
My reason for docking a review point is as follows. Tyddyn Llan sets out to compete with the best restaurants out there. However, the food was just not quite the perfection that I expect at this sort of level. For example, I had a salad to start with. It had some exciting heat to it, but little in the way of texture and felt a bit 2-dimensional as a result. My main course also managed to be pleasant without really impressing me.
If this had been in an "average" restaurant - approx £8 starter and £13-£20 for main course - I would have been pretty well satisfied - a lovely meal. However, at this sort of level I expect a bit more. So.... This is a lovely restaurant and there is much to recommend it in terms of service and atmosphere etc. However, for me, on this occasion, I felt the food didn't quite hit the spot.
PS. I had a slightly fizzy desert wine - a delight - would recommend it if you fancy something a bit different from the usual muscat et al.
