Our stay at Maelgwyn House was excellent! We arrived tired and grumpy after driving on Welsh backroads for 4 hours. We were sweetly greeted and shown to our beautiful room overlooking the Harlech castle. Our room was immaculate. There was not one spot of dirt in the whole room or bathroom. We instantly felt better!

We walked down the street to a Welsh pub (The Red Lion) for dinner and had a great time. When we returned (around 9pm) Bridget was so sweet to accomodate us by allowing us to receive a call from family back in the US on her private phone. (there was no phone in our room)

We slept soundly because our room was so quiet and arose early to catch an early tee-time at the Royal St. David's Golf Club. Derrick greeted us at breakfast and made us feel right at home. The food was excellent and gave us plenty of energy for a morning of golf in the fog.

We definitely recommend the Maelgwyn House Bed & Breakfast and thought the rooms and service were of the highest quality.

Wonderful gem of a place with great views, lovely rooms, and spotless bathrooms (ours even had a full bookshelf in it). The hotel owners were very friendly and helpful (ask Derrick for a recommendation on hills to climb away from the usual tourist trail), and the breakfast was just the right way to start the day.

Very highly recommended and we would definitely come back for our next visit

“Beautiful location”

Just came back from 2 nights in Harlech and this B and B has the best location. It sits above Harlech Castle and the castle is on a cliff! We stayed in Room 1 with a gorgeous view of the castle (to our right) and the Bay (and Beach) directly ahead with no obstructions - gorgeous! The hosts were extremely friendly and really made you feel at home. Our room had a very comfortable bed and 2 chairs in the bay window to sit and enjoy the view. The house was built in 1907 and is very cosy. There are tea making facilities in your room along with cookies and chocolates and bottled water. The bathroom was a little small but cute and the towel warmer was lovely. Breakfast is very good. You have alot of choice - cereals(hot or cold) , yogurt with fresh fruit to add, muesili, eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, toast (white or brown), fruit bread, welsh cakes and a variety of preserves. You will be full after that! So if you want to burn off those extra calories the path to the beach starts right across the street - it's a good ways down so take your time and then you must cross the dunes to a 7 mile beach (you could walk forever) but save some energy for the walk back up! (it is a climb!) I should also mention that Maelgwyn House is set back from the road with a cute garden and sitting area to enjoy (there is also off-road parking ) Harlech itself is a cute little town built around the Castle (it is one of Edward I ring of castles but is not pushed by the tour companies)
It is however one of the most interesting because of it's location and fortifications - well worth a view. There are a few shops and tea rooms - go to Cemlyn Tea shop - they are so nice and serve good lunches as well as tea (they do close at 5 pm so make sure you're there by 4pm) Try the Bara Brith - a fruity cake and you get 2 slices! There are several choices for dinner but check to see if their open ahead of time. If you feel like a fancier dinner go to the Plas Restaurant - excellent food, lots of choice, beautiful view, and food is cooked to order. Harlech is a village worth a visit and do stay at Maelgwyn House.

Perfect in every way. Friendly owners, beautiful decor, views, food etc. By far the best B&B we stayed in on our 20 day trip around the U.K. We chose a seaview room and the views truly are spectacular. The room was spotlessly clean, large and comfortable and beautifully decorated. Ensuite bathroom was modern and also fitted out beautifully. Derek has his artwork on the walls everywhere, and the local scenes he has painted are gorgeous. Tea & coffee facilities in the room were excellent, including biscuits. We could also see the Castle and the village, which is only a 5 minute walk away. The village is a quaint little place with stone buildings, craft shops, restaurants etc. Breakfast was first class with plenty of choices. It was just all the little extra's that made this B&B outstanding, and Derek and Bridgit were wonderful/friendly hosts. Would highly recommend.
