Visited last Sunday with the family. Read a few reviews before going which were mainly positive and generally giving a good overall impression of the Zoo. To be honest, I wasn't overly impressed, one review said it was the best Zoo they had ever been too !!!!!! Really ? The Zoo is in major need of a serious overhaul, the enclosures were unkempt, they looked aged and worn and there really is not a lot to see here. The Snow Leopard was curled up on a concrete pillar in the corner, it looked depressed , the Monkey house was dirty, cracked glass, yes, cracked glass where the monkeys have been repeatedly striking the glass as part of the food teasing exhibition, the glass in the middle section is dirty and the glazing has cobwebs between them that on closer inspection looked as if they have been there since the time of construction . There really is not a lot to see here , Chester Zoo is only half an hour from here and for a family day out is in a different league all together. One aspect of this Zoo though that was really good was the children's play area, a lot of thought has gone into this and the kids had a great time in it . The cafe was ok, food was fine but it does get busy at meal times. Overall, if you want to go to the best Zoo in the North West , go to Chester .
