We went to the royal oak last week and had the fresh battered pollack with chips ,home made tartar sauce and mushy peas. Ample Good sized portions at a very reasonable price of £10.00. They have just refurbished the restaurant and have done a fantastic job creating an area to have your meal away from the bar in a warm and cosy place . The restaurant is dog free if you don't like having a meal sat next to fido. If you do have a dog they are welcome in the bar area as long as they are under control .It is a great place to visit on a sunny day , sit outside, enjoy the view and have a glass of the real ale which people travel for miles for. Its a joy to see such a hard working couple with two young children doing so well. There is the main menu and specials on boards above the bar which change often. It is well worth the drive up there for a meal or just to sample the tasty real ales . They have a beer festival on the 24th August which I will try to attend after being told its a great time to sample the different beers and have a good day out with the family. They have been awarded a hygiene 5 star rating which is the best you can get and is a credit to them and the hard work they do. Will be back very soon .

this pub has always been a favourite of ours as it about 7 miles north of LLandovery on the way to the Llyn Briane Dams. Rachael and Chris who took over a couple of years ago have introduced a more exciting menu than usual pub grub and i am sure you would be pleased by your visit.

We have just had a one night stay at the Royal Oak. My husband had arranged it as a surprise for my birthday. When we arrived we received a warm welcome and we were shown our room straight away. It was a twin room with en suite bathroom all was spotlessly clean. As a previous reviewer stated the floors do creak rather loudly but that is only to be expected. The room was cold as there was no heating in there until an electric heater was put in when we arrived and it took a long time till the room warmed up. The beds were very comfortable and the view from the window outstanding.

We went down for an evening meal at about 6.30 and found the lounge/restaurant to be very inviting. One end there was a lovely open log fire and at the other end a wood burner. The hospitality from behind the bar was also good. The food when it came was first class and the amount on the plates beat both my husband and myself although that did not stop us having one of the excellent desserts later on. We really enjoyed our evening

We came down for breakfast next morning and there was a good selection of cereal and plenty of juice. There was also plenty of toast and it was served still hot. The only critisism I have is with the cooked breakfast. It was beautifully presented and hot but for our tastes it was very greasy and I could only really eat part of it and I usually really enjoy a cooked breakfast when it has been cooked for me but that was the only disappointment and I would recommend the Royal Oak if you want a relaxing place away from it all.

We stayed here for one night as a result of a booking mix-up. Rachel was very helpful and friendly, finding place for us and making up an extra bed for our 5-year-old daughter at short notice. My daughter was delighted to find a teddy waiting on her bed and we were pleased to find the room clean and comfortable. It was great to have a en-suite bathroom but, since I'm used to showers, I find it awkward to wash in a bath without a shower curtain or screen. Yes, the rooms were a little dated and the floorboards creaky, but oddly I rather liked that!

I had read some positive reviews of the food and so decided to take up Rachel's offer of a reserved table for dinner. We were glad we did! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, it was lovely to be sitting by a log fire and the food was a very pleasant surprise. We decided to share two mains between us: the house burger and the fish and chips. Both were of excellent quality, but the fish (cod) was really outstanding. So much so that my husband and daughter insisted that we came back the next evening for seconds! I can also warmly recommend the beef and ale pie that I chose for my second visit.

My daughter declared that the place was 'lovely and snuggly' and that she would happily stay 'forever'. We look forward to returning for another good meal by the fire next time we are in the area.

Pros: friendly, helpful staff, nice pub with good beers and pleasant atmosphere.
Cons: accommodation rather basic and a bit tired. My room had a shared bathroom, but with no shower (just a bath) and dead spider hanging from the ancient heater. The room has a small sink. The view from the room is of an old greenhouse and some concrete. Many nearby farmhouse B&Bs offer better accommodation for the same sort of price in my experience.

We have stayed at this place several times previous. This visit was very disappointing. Rooms were looking very tired and not that clean. Mouse droppings were evident in the bedroom and a dried bread roll on the floor had obviously been there for some time. There was a shortage of hot water at all times. The number of real ales on tap was woeful - in stark contrast to previous visits where the selection and quality was excellent. Overall very disappointing and probably won't bother to stay there again.
