“FIne stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2006

Stayed one night without any problems. Rooms typical of a Hampton Inn, what i expected for $99. Hotel was at capacity, no issues with the parking. As a former Memphis resident I can understand peoples comments about the area, but the area is actually improved since I lived there 8 years ago. Parking lot is well lit and fenced, but not gated. Access to hotel from rear requires room key. Arrived after 11 pm and felt safe. Outdoor pool was clean, breakfast had a good variety and was kept stocked. Would stay again if i needed to be in the midtown/UT area. Restaurant recommendation: Blue Fish on South Cooper@ Young, less than 10 minutes away, great seafood which is hard to find in memphis, $20 price range for entrees, highly recommeded. They provide parking 2 doors down on Cooper for $5 (parking can be difficult in Cooper-Young area), get your ticket validated by your server and the attendent will refund your $5 on the way out. Lots of fun little shops in the area also.

Stayed there last night and found the front desk staff to be very friendly, the room was clean, neat, and comfortable (my only complaint is a little mold in the grout around the shower), breakfast this Morning was typical Hampton Inn quality (they did not have the eggs or sausage), checkout was quick and friendly.

After reading the previous review about "unsavory area" I asked the cab driver if the area around the hotel was safe and he stated it was. Perhaps the previous reviewer is not accustom to "urban areas."

I am a gold Hilton memeber and do not plan on going back to the hotel. The hotel itself was not that bad, but the area around it was unsavory. I came out of the hotel to find the car 6 down from mine on concrete blocks with the wheels gone. I stayed here to be closer to a customer. I will not do that again.

Having reserved two adjoining non-smoking rooms, we received instead rooms on two different floors, one of which was a smoking room. Staff could only say "I guess we overbooked." Housekeeping also left the door open to one of our rooms after cleaning which we discovered after coming back to the room late at night - - pretty creepy. No A/C in halls or elevators added to an overall unpleasant experience.

By far, this was my worst experience with a Hampton Inn. We requested a
non-smoking room and received a "non-smoking" room that smelled like it HAD been a smoking room up until the time we checked in. This was a family vacation and in all we reserved five rooms for three nights. The hotel was out of toilet paper. We ended up buying some for our room. The hotel was also out of shampoo. We had to wait for clean towels each and every day. One day, we only had one set of clean towels. It was 11:00pm before we could get more. Ridiculously pitiful service. The only plus would be that it is convenient too all of the tourist attractions, the continental b'fast was above average, and the nightly rate was reasonable. Oh, and before I forget, for some unGodly reason, they weren't running the air in the hallways or elevator. The manager said that there was no problem with the AC, so I am assuming they were just cheap and didn't want to run it in the 100+ degree temperatures.

We had a very pleasant 3 night stay here. The staff was competent, friendly, and helpful. The general appearance of the rooms, corridors and the lobby were very good. The pool area was well maintained.

I was surprised to find a much better rate on the Hampton Inn site than on Orbitz or Hotels.com.

I thought Beale St might be walkable from here - it isn't unless you like walking along major traffic arteries through an industrial area. Fortunately, it's a short drive downtown and parking was available and reasonable.

We stayed here for a weekend getaway. Not bad location, only 2 miles from Beale Street. This seems to be an older building that has been refurbished. the rooms are clean but showing age. bed was comfortable. Staff was friendly. Breakfast needs a bit of work. I have stayed in other Hampton Inns and had a much better breakfast service.
