“the ducks were trained really well!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

My husband and I were skeptical when we read about the ducks marching at the Peabody Hotel, so we popped over for a look. When we arrived at a quarter to 5, people were already stationed near the fountain and along the staircase and balconies on the second floor. We found ourselves a spot and waited for the ducks. The introduction was rather long-winded, but when the ducks started marching and moving around the fountain it was wonderful to behold! It must have taken a great deal of training to teach several ducks to move in a synchronized manner, and for that alone it is worth a visit. The Peabody Hotel itself is also very nice, with old-world charm and elegance. Grand old hotels like this are getting fewer and fewer, so soak up the ornate architecture and lavish interiors.

“If you're in Memphis, you have to see the ducks!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2014

I was in Memphis for the first time and wanted to be a true tourist and see the ducks. My boyfriend and I walked into the Hotel lobby around 10:45 am on a Saturday. We made our way to the elevators and waited. A few minutes before the hour the 'duck master' came out and told us the duck's story. By 11:00 the ducks rode down the elevator, walked down the red carpet, and jumped in the fountain. Short, sweet, and a tradition worth seeing once.

“Quaint and fun for kids.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2014

We didn't stay at the Peabody Hotel but did make a point of attending the afternoon 'ceremony' where the ducks left the fountain and marched back to the elevator. It was a quaint experience and humorous in that several well-known celebrities (Kevin Bacon, Oprah Winfrey, etc) have officiated as "Duckmaster". It is very crowded so be sure to get there early if you want a good vantage point.

“Get there early if you want to see the ducks!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

We dropped by twice on a weekend in June 2013. The first time, we came about 15 minutes before the ducks were supposed to "march" (we did the late afternoon one, where they leave the fountain and get back in the elevator). We ended up upstairs without much of a view.

The second night, we came earlier and were able to see a little more. It's a pretty basic premise though: the ringmaster talks, a kid helps out, the ducks go down the carpet. Still sweet to see and something you should probably do if you're visiting Memphis.

Hotel itself is beautiful and it seems like there are always people hanging out, having a drink, etc in the lobby.
