“Bad service, mediocre food.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2006

Having lived in Memphis for 18 years, I know that Huey's has a rep of having the "best burger in town." That doesn't say much for either Memphis, Huey's or both as the entire menu of Huey's is nothing more than dull bar food one could get at any airport chain grille or restaurant. The food is boring, bland, and mostly tasteless. The service is severely inconsistent at every location. You may get lucky and be served immediately, or wait in a never-ending nightmare for your server to ever come back to the table. If the food was stellar, you might expect people to ignore the total lack of service....however, with the food being completely run-of-the-mill at best you wonder why it's still so crowded? That says a lot about most Memphian's total lack of taste and judgement. Take my word for it visitors....skip this one.

“20 year customer and still coming back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2006

I started coming to Huey's Midtown in 1986. The burgers are the best - always have been, always will be.

The service is so-so, but you don't come for the service, you come to be entertained by the wide variety of folks that eat there.

“Old favorite but service can be questionable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2005

Huey's - if someone in Memphis says let's go to Huey's, you must insist that you go to the ORGINAL Huey's in midtown. All of the other locations are formula - they have a copied look to the midtown location. The food is hamburger fare. The onion rings are huge! The crowd varies - sometimes college kids, sometimes families, sometimes gay guys. Everyone gets along perfectly as a nice cross-section of Midtown Memphis.

But beware, the service is spotty. On several occasions, we have left vowing NEVER to return. You may, as it has happened to me, sit for 5 minutes without even a word being said to you. Or, you might have a great experience until you have to sit for 10 minutes and wait for the bill.

So take your chances on a truly Memphis experience.

You'd think in a town like Memphis, where meat-eaters RULE, that the place known for the best burgers in town would actually make a good burger. Well, life doesn't always make a lot of sense does it? The famous Huey burger is poor indeed. I'd have to say one of the least satisfying burgers this burger lover has ever eaten. It was dry, bland and truly unremarkable. Truth be told, I didn't bother to finish it!

The atmosphere is kind of cool, in a funky run-down kind of way. The service was friendly enough but very slow and sloppy.

The desserts? Put it this way - they actually served the same individually wrapped ice cream sundaes you'd buy in the corner store!!

Some kid friendly items on the menu make it a so-so choice for families - but for anyone actually looking for a good burger, keep looking!
