There are many different fun things to do here throughout the year. The kids always have fun no matter what we do when we come to Shelby farms.

“A large park with lots to do!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

One of the best eco-friendly playgrounds ever. The playground is fantastic. I suggest going on a weekday because it does get crowded even though there are many sections. Make sure you read the information about the trees used and how the playground is eco-friendly. There are many other things to do here too! There is a nice paved walking running path, around the park and connects to The GreenLine that goes to midtown and eventually will go down town. There is a lake that you can rent paddle boats. There is many festivals that happen here. They have a frisbee golf course that is out in the open and is spread out among the park. There are smaller lakes for fishing. I suggest going to the visitor center first to get a map so you can know where everything is. There is also horseback riding. If you have a dog there is a section for just dogs. THey can run and be off there leash. It is neat to see so many types of dogs getting along and enjoying a park in one place. Oh, don't forget to look for the buffalo. Lots to do! Plan to spend the day. Bring a lunch for there is not anything other than snack machines.

“Memphis treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

Huge farm property on the extended jail property that offers a dog park, buffalo preserve, lake with paddleboats, running trails (on and off road), biking, fishing, picnic areas, play parks for the kids... It is expansive and so green. New developments connect it to the city's green lines and it's just what the city needs more of. Plus a local animal shelter is on the property. The coolest addition is the Shakespear connection that holds plays in a forrested ampitheter during theater season.

“Eco friendly but not animal friendly!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

The buffalo were sick and starving, and the horses at the stable weren't any better. The park has the right idea with it's green initiatives and get fit campaigns, but the animals at the park are severely neglected.

“Great place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

There are some great playgrounds for the kids here, and they enjoyed just running around after having been to museums etc. We came twice during our visit to Memphis.
The park is beautiful and the rangers are very friendly.
