For me as a record collector and Radio DJ, this is a very well presented piece of music history. The staff at the museum should be proud of themselves. Just maybe at the shop a wider selection of vinyl and CD,s to buy would be helpfull.

“Cool man, real cool...”

Definitely worth the visit if you are a music lover. The area of town is a little declined, but the museum is well done.

“Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Stax Records. If you want to understand the Memphis sound and gain an appreciation the 1960's, music, and even the Civil Rights Movement, make a visit to Stax Records. I would highly recommend it. The museum was very well done, the staff was quite nice and we walked away very pleased that we had taken the time to visit this delightful museum.

“The other half of 60s music”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

I grew up listening to AM pop radio in the 60's. During that era the music was the British Invasion, American imitation and soul. The radio stations gave a lot of publicity and backgrounds on the British and American groups and played soul, but without much explanation. This museum, built on the site of the original Stax studio gives the background that we did not get. As a museum it is different from what you encounter at Sun Studios, which remains a working studio. Here you will find out about the founders of the label and the musicians and performers. It is worth a trip when you're in Memphis.
