“again, Music was born here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

What is there to say about Stax. Great music was born here. They were musicians and that was all that mattered. They didn’t care about color or your belief. Until MLK died. Then, everything changed. So this museum is a definitely must see when in Memphis. It starts off with a 20-minute film and after that you can walk the grounds. Stand in the actual studio. If you’re quiet enough, you’ll even hear them making their sweet and soulful music! And as always, don’t forget the gift shop!

“OK but not the best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

Since Stax closed in the 70s, not much new is offered here. It duplicates some of the coverage of the Museum of Rock and Soul but not as well.

“a trip down memory lane”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

I lived through all of those times, so this was a trip down memory lane. The history of R&B, the civil rights movement all were fresh in my mind. I didn't know that Booker T & the MG's were there house band! A lot of very interesting information. Isaac Hayes's cadillac was way over the top!

“Soul Music”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

Missed this last time in Memphis and was one reason to go back. Didn't realise how many singers I had worshipped made music here. A fascinating time.

“Awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

As a fan of soul music, I loved this. Happily spent a few hours walking through the awesome exhibits of the great musicians, origins, soul culture and so on. Good mix of artefacts and text, well produced video, and interactive content.
