“An oasis during a week of displacement”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

I was treated to a stay-cation (stay in town vacation) at the Shellcrest, and what a treat it was! At the time I was in-between apartments and needed a place for about a week. Staying at a hotel didn't appeal to me and I had already done the rounds on friends' couches. I was looking for some much needed privacy, and a place that felt more like a home.

The Victorian house was fantastic and I had the opportunity to grill out in a pleasant backyard garden setting. After a trip to the downtown farmer's market, I enjoyed brunch in the sun room. Additional amenities included items a full kitchen, laundry and gated parking. Some good restaurants are within walking distance and the trolley stop to get downtown is just down the street.

The owner and staff were wonderful, and extremely accommodating. You provide them with a grocery list and they'll have the food waiting for you in the fridge, to cook at your leisure.

Currently planning to make reservations for family members when they come to visit.

Highly recommended!

The Shellcrest was more that I expected. I loved the Victorian architecture of this 1860s townhouse with it's wonderful views of downtown Memphis. It has great amenities like its up to date kitchen, washer/dryer, sunroom, balcony, gated parking and walking distance to a trolley stop to head downtown. The host, who was very helpful, told of us a very unique bar/restaurant just across the street, the Mollie Fontaine Lounge. It's also in an old Victorian house and did not disappoint.
I highly recommend!

I would definately recommend Shellcrest for anyone that is looking for accommodation in Memphis. I found any queries I had via email were answered promptly and every effort was made to accommodate my needs, definately one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had while booking accommodation for a hotel

We stayed 3 nights and loved the place. Perfect for a couple, and a reasonable price. The house itself is really comfortable, and well laid out. The position is as good as you need it - easy 10 minute walk downtown. Great hosts, with helfpul tips on where to eat and drink.

For the price why would you bother with a hotel?

We recently spent 3 nights at the Shellcrest and it was a wonderful experience. The Shellcrest is a two bedroom apartment with unique charm and character. It's centrally located downtown by great restaurants, the FedEx Forum, Civil Rights Museum, RedBirds Stadium, Sun Studio, Beale St., and the Mississippi River. There is secure gated parking. It's a great place to stay while experiencing the city of Memphis.

For $175, you get an entire floor in a 2 family colonial. It offers a fully furnished apt, complete w a kitchen, washer, dryer and most of all privacy.

Scott, the proprietor is extremely welcoming and helpful. He is very knowledgeable and is happy to help w recommendations for restaurants, sites, etc.

I'd recommend having a car if you do stay here. While its only 1 mile from downtown - Beale st, etc. I'd imagine it would be tough to get around without the car. Gated, secure parking is included.

I don't know if I'll make it back to Memphis, but I'd certainly stay here again!

We recently had a 4 night/day stay at the Shellcrest and it was terrific.
The owner/innkeeper, Scott Blake, lives next door and greeted us with enthusiasm and lots of excellent information.
The B & B was one of the most unique places we've ever stayed. The house was built in the 1800's and is filled with high ceilings, large windows, and period furnishings. The kitchen is up to date and met all our needs. The Shellcrest is a short walk from Sun Studio and Neely's Bar -B -Que is right across the street. The Trolley Line is an easy walk with connections to downtown and Beale Street. We enjoyed ourselves and would definately stay there again. The Zollner's
