“Wonderful Romantic Getaway!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2011 via mobile

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Madison Hotel for a romantic weekend getaway. Very nice hotel!! The staff is so friendly and helpful. We loved the rooftop which overlooks the Mississsippi River (beautiful view), there are tables that you can sit at and a mini bar to order drinks. The hotel also has a bar downstairs that makes some of the best Long Island Teas I've tasted. They offer a nice turndown service and they leave chocolates on your pillow. The Madison Hotel is southern hospitality at it's finest!! Can't wait to go back!!

My boyfriend and I decided to get away for a couple of nights, so we decided to stay at the well-known Madison Hotel. We had heard many of our friends talk about it before in the past. The hotel is lavishly decorated and makes you feel at home. All of the employees there were friendly to the both of us. The breakfast served in the morning could use some work...maybe some additional varieties could be offered. The balcony at the top was closed for an event one night and we were not allowed to go so that was a disappointment, but woke up early the next morning to go see the view. Fortunately, it was open for us to enjoy the weather.

Thank you for sharing your satisfaction with your stay with other travelers and for your comments about the lavish environment of The Madison and our friendly staff. I am sorry you could not get access to the rooftop garden on the night of your stay as there was a private party there, but I am glad you had an opportunity to enjoy the breath taking views of The Mississippi River and our city from Atop Madison the following morning.
I trust we will have the pleasure of having you back soon.
Sincerely,

Wonderful from beginning to end... beautiful, historic building downtown--great location. Service was outstanding from every person. Daily breakfast was lovely... especially on the roof, which we visited frequently for an incredible view of The Mississippi River. ONLY wish was that coffee makers be provided in rooms.

We booked off of Hotels.com and got a pretty good price on our room considering the service.

My husband and I stayed here when we journeyed from California to Georgia. Needless to say, this place HAS it down. Upon entering, the bellhop was more than welcoming, I believe his name was Anthony. He is the epitome of Southern Gentleman. Anthony recommend a few places for us to have dinner at. We decided on the restaurant about a block away called "Flight".

While checking in, the front-end manager assisted us. She was kind and very professional. She explained how to get to our room and accommodated us as much as possible.

Our room was smaller but very well set up. The bathroom was large. The bed was ridiculously comfortable. Down pillows, comforter, etc.

Anytime we walked outside or in the lobby we were greeted by name. This was a great personal touch.

Breakfast was included, it was a sit down breakfast in which you are served either continental style food (yogurt, granola, cereal) or hot food (eggs, grits, bacon, toast) My husband and I both got the hot food and were very pleased. There selection of fresh juices are great too!

I did not have any cocktails but I hear they have a great bar keeper :)

We are planning a trip back to Memphis to stay here and eat at the Flight again!

I want to rate this hotel higher. The staff were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. During our stay the hotel was being redecorated. We were in an older room with air-conditioning louder than an F18. This was unfortunate, but the newer rooms look very nice. The location is a convenient walk for all the major attractions and we had no problems with any noise from outside (although the Air-con would have drowned out a fly past).
The hotel has a roof top terrace. On a Thursday there is live music which is excellent. However, at nearly all other times it was empty with no seating or shade and piped music played too loud. It is a shame they don’t make more of this considering the views over the river.
Our biggest problem was that the cleaners left our hotel room door wide open one night and then seemed to park a laundry trolley outside our room door after we complained. We were offered the chance to speak to the cleaning manager but we were more concerned with checking out. I hope this was an isolated experience given how nice the rest of the staff were. The Madison is a respectable hotel with much more potential given a few tweaks. Perhaps the refurbishment will achieve this.
