Last night we met friends for drinks and dinner at SOB in Memphis. Although we live here we had never been there. Friends were from out of town. Bartender Michael was a fountain of suggestions on the drink and food menu. He poured me one of the best Manhattans ever, and the bar offers an interesting and unique selection of brews, most of which we'd never even heard of before. Tastes of several ensued while we found the best for each of us. Menu is unique and very interesting. They make all their own meats (sausage, pepperoni, etc) and cheeses (goat, gouda, etc.) as well as homemade tartar sauce and even ketchup! All were devine. The fried avadaco and sausage and cheese plate, especially the blueberry infused cheese, were delightful, original and very tasty. We tried all the recommended specials: Mac and Cheese (to die for!), brussel sprouts with bacon and maple glaze (tastebud explosion) and entrees: SOB Burger was excellent, fish and chips made with perch and homemade chips were most enjoyable, the flatbread pizza of the day was scrumptious, the shrimp salad featured the surprising grilled lettuce kabobs on a bed of succulent shrimp, and the beer cheese soup and bread was most devine on a cold winter's night. We had a fabulous dinner, conversation was easy because not too crowded, a nice bar experience and excellent wait service. The unique gastro pub adds a new culinary experience in a town known for BBQ and fried chicken. We will return again! It's something to try and experience all the wonderfully flavored menu items, so go with a group so you can try it all!
