“River History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

I had wanted to visit Mud Island a few years ago, but it is closed on Monday. So on this visit to Memphis, I made sure that we would not be there on a Monday. Go for the history of this great river which is featured in the museum. You'll see models of rafts, keel boats, riverboats and gunboats. You'll learn about floods on the river and efforts to control them. You'll learn about the people who live by the river. There is also an area featuring the history of music in Memphis. Outside you'll see a model of the Mississippi as it twists and turns on its way to the Gulf of Mexico. Some people may walk in the water as it flows in this model. My only complaint is that the selection in the gift shop was a bit skimpy. I think more books could have been featured with the history of the river.

“Interesting Model, but sit upkeep could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

The park is nestled at the edge of an island located on the banks of the Mississippi and directly across an inlet from downtown Memphis. The model of the Mississippi River is wonderful and detailed, my children enjoyed it thoroughly. Beyond the model, their is a museum, views of downtown Memphis and the actual Mississippi. We paid $6 for parking which allowed us access to the model, but not the other amenities. Overall, the experience was great. The only downside to the experience was the upkeep of grounds within and without the park. After parking you have to walk a short distance through a rusted, unkept, and cluttered circular area. The point is that beyond the model, which is excellent, the park is begging to show its age and lack of diligence in upkeep. This is odd, because there wed numerous workers buzzing about.

“Mud Island is a unique experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Do you remember Tom Cruise running for his life in "The Firm" and riding the tram over to Mud Island? We hopped on the tram & made our way to Mud Island. The thing we enjoyed most was the scale model of the Mississippi River as it flows from its beginning in the north until it empties into the Gulf of Mexico. Even the depth of the river is to scale. Put your toes in the cool water in St. Louis or step from the Mississippi Delta into the river. All along the way towns and sights are labeled. You can almost imagine Huck Finn putting in his raft in Hannibal. Fun & educational for all ages.

“Lot of reading on place boards.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Mock river was cool. with info on place boards that get to much to keep reading but information is amazing. seems like it would be good place to hike, but we did not do that. Suggestion would be a brochour to read before or after visit.
