You can reach Mud Island via walking across the bridge or via monorail. Once on the island, go to the museum. Also, walk the miniature Mississippi River. Allow lots of time here.

“Could be great if it weren't in such a state of disreapir”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

The Mississippi River Walk is very interesting and offers alot of good information for the adults to read and lots of running around room for the kids.

Unfortunately, the river walk is in a sad state of disrepair. Missing or broken brick pavers on the pathways and along the river model, peeling paint and rusted metal on the building structures, and several places where fire ants were coming up between the cracks and spaces in the walk - so watch where your kids are standing.

In general the atmosphere is relaxing in a park like setting, but it could be so much more if some TLC and spruce up were applied to the river walk.

We parked in the parking lot and came in where the river walk started. We did not go into the gift shops and museums as we could not find wheelchair access from along the river walk where we were.

“Awesome craftsmanship”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

This park is an awesome piece of art. The Mississippi River is sculpted into a water park for kids to run and play in. They have educational signs posted along the river which tell about historical events that happen in each of the ten states which the river runs through. The monorail provided a different perspective of the city. The welcome center below provides lots of information about the city as well. This was near the National Civil Rights Museum. We were able to enjoy so many historical areas for an entire day and spent less than $20. For $10-$20 more a family of four can tour the museum and get the round trip monorail ride for free. We could see the bridge to Arkansas from the riverpark. We visited during May in Memphis and did not have time to take in the bbq cookoff contests which were happening nearby. I'm sure that would have added even more fun to the day.

Pretty cool place. $4 for round trip tram over or you can walk over top for free. Replica of the Mississippi all the way from start to finish. Lots of information. Kids can play in it but some areas had lots of depris in it.
