“Separating the walk and the trails”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

This review pertains to the picture of a model Mississippi River shown here. The river model is unique and well planned and designed. It is well enjoyed by every visitor to whom I've spoken who has travelled out to the Island and strolled its length as I've done a few times. The problem here is that some reviewers seem to be evaluating some portion or all of the riverfront trails which are actually called the Riverwalk. (memphisriverfront.com/parks/riverwalk) They run along the top of the Bluff and loop back down along the riverside and possibly along the water up the northern portion of Mud Island (the residential part). By contrast you can continue nowhere after you've reached the end of the Model River, as that's the end of the Island on one end and the end of the Park on the other, so unless I'm mistaken these two are being combined and for the most misidentified. If you're a walker or runner the actual Riverwalk is great in its entireity. If you're a tourist or interested in the MS River or a kid the Mud Island Model River is fabulous.

“Not much”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

As far as riverwalks go, Memphis's is nothing special. There really isn't much to see or do unless some sort of festival is going on.

“Please Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

If you describe to someone what Mud Island is they'd never go. Just trust me, it's great fun and it's FREE (if you don't ride the monorail). Kids will love it and everybody will learn a lot and have a greater appreciation of the Mississippi River.

“Could be a great place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

The sky ride to the Island is cool and only $4.00 for adults. The construction of the Mississippi River through the park is very cool. A replica of the entire river and you can take your shoes off and walk thru it. Kids of all ages would love it.

“A Unique Way to View the Mississippi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

This attraction is unlike anything I have ever seen! It is a scale model of the Mississippi River system, including parts of the Ohio, Tennessee, Cumberland, Arkansas and Red(and more) Rivers in three dimensional relief with water flowing through it. It is fascinating to see the topographic and hydrologic details, and frequent information panels provide background on the history and geography of the communities along the river. It is fun for kids to wade in, and it is free if you drive to Mud Island. We didn't take the monorail, but it looks like that would be fun, too. Maybe next time.
