This is the only US museum that is specifically about ornamental metalwork. Metalwork is shown as a fine art craft at this very active museum. It hosts solo and group exhibits, has permanent collections of traditional and contemporary work, provides conservation and restoration services, offers classes and demonstrations, internships, artist residencies and apprenticeships, and conducts research. Ornamental metal works are on display inside a beautiful old house and outside in a sculpture garden. The garden's view of the river is so beautiful that some couples chose it as their wedding location. The Museum annually honors master metal smiths. One can see various works made from cast metals, hollowware, jewelry and amazing enameled pieces. The Museum also hosts Repair Days, when metal smiths repair metal items to raise money for Museum programs.
I've seen a few other black-smithing demonstrations, but I found the museum's especially fun and interesting. Be sure to look for the (formerly) white cat. Items forged in the Smithy are sold in the museum's gift shop.
