“Great hotel for area!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

I wasn't too sure about staying here when my husband and daughter mentioned it, but figured it would be an experience at least. I fell in LOVE the moment I walked into the lobby!! Not a big Elvis fan but the decor fits perfectly!! Blue velvet chairs, red velvet curtains and Elvis pics everywhere!! It was very tastefully done, not tacky by all means!! The room was great! Clean and beds comfortable! The only thing I can complain about was the front desk person upon check in. He wasn't really rude, but could of been a lot more welcoming and helpful. Great place for price, great location! Will stay again next time in Memphis!!

Got to the hotel to check in, walked in and saw the lobby which by the way its amazing, got to the front desk to get our VIP tour package and took a little long for the clerk to check us in, half of the package was done for us but not completed. Got checked in and our room was on the 5th floor as we walk into the room we were shocked to what we had just walked in to. A room that hasn't been updated since the 70s, the furniture just simply old, room smelled old itself. No flat screen tv in the bedroom just in the living room, and the heat unit which is like 7' from the floor just simply a sad thing to see. You would think that this hotel would do something different with their rooms with so much money they make from travelers everyday. I mean come on a little painting will not hurt, updated tv's and some NEW ac/heat units that are closer to the floor, and also some updated furniture. I feel like I did not get what I paid for $600.00 for 2 nights was not worth it for this hotel, such a disappointment!!!

Unless you are a die hard Elvis fan, you should strongly consider staying some where else. The hotel is supposed to take you back to the 60s and 70s and the decor definitely serves that purpose. Unfortunately so does the chipping paint and old musty furniture. It seems like the last time anything was updated was the 70s. Skip the continental breakfast and go to Juniper's College Inn - you can get fruit loops and bagels any time. If you need something from the front desk, be prepared to stand there for at least 5 minutes while the attendant does something else. There seemed to be enough guests to justify having 2 people at the front desk but there was only one person working which made checking in and out take longer than normal. The Heartbreak Hotel is situated right next door to the Graceland ticket pavilion which makes it convenient for visiting the mansion. However all other attractions in Memphis are in and around downtown. You would be better off staying downtown and driving to Graceland.

The best part of this hotel is the lobby. Once you enter it, turn around and leave. It will only down hill from here. And down hill rapidly. I understand this is an older hotel. I get the Graceland connection. I was hoping for retro-kitsch. What I got was old-crap. We’ll skip the common problems of old hotels (weak hot water, fitness room largely non-functioning, etc). Some of the odder issues were a heating/cooling system stuck in the wall (like a window AC unit) but it was mounted up high where the buttons were more than 6’ off the ground. If you are shorter in stature you have to stand on a chair to turn on the heat or AC (which did work well by the way). The front service is, well, totally devoid of service. Not the anomalies of an unfulfilled request mind you. I would have been happier if they simply said “no” to anything I asked, but over the three days it became clear that they would tell you what ever it took to get you away from there desk so they could sit down and go back to sharpening their apathy skills. Gift shops that don’t open as posted. Maintenance men that will be right up, but turns out were gone for the day. You get the idea. I tried to be understanding of the older and unique nature of this property. What I don’t understand are individuals who don’t give a flip about the people who come to this hotel for a vacation. Individuals who don’t even show the common courtesy one would typically give a stranger, never mind a customer.

We were driving back to Illinois from Florida and I convinced my husband to stop in Memphis so I could finally see Graceland. Of course we had to stay at the Heartbreak Hotel. From check in to check out the staff were very friendly and professional. Our room was very clean. The hotel is decorated in a lot of velvet furniture and pictures of Elvis on the walls. We thought it would be more gaudy but it was tastefully done. The music in the lobby, restaurant and bar is Elvis. There are 2 t.v. stations that play Elvis movies and talk about Elvis 24/7. We watched an Elvis movie and some of the other programs in our room for about 6 hours and learned a lot about him.
There isn't wifi in the hotel but they have 1 or 2 computers in the lobby for guests to use.
The continental breakfast was good. Parking lot is secure with guard at gate. A small restaurant and bar in hotel.
Also the hotel is walking distance from the ticket counter at Graceland. I would definitely stay here again.

My daughter and I stayed for 4 nights, the hotel was a great experience, yes some staff seemed a little down, but the majority were fantastic. The night manager Anna, made our stay even more memorable. Her office is full of Elvis bits and bobs and she is a charming character. She really cares about your experience. Our room was fine no problems at all, it was clean as was the bathroom and kitchenette. Loved the fact that Gracelands was just a short walk away. We went to Beale street and sun studios. Overall a great trip.

Room Tip: We were on the fifth floor on the corner, we had no problems with noise, it was nice opening the bli...
