I stayed at the Comfort Inn Downtown June 9-12th while in town on business. I booked my room at the hotel website and received exactly what I asked for (higher floor, king room, river view). A bountiful breakfast buffet (including waffles, biscuits and gravy, 3 types of cereal, yogurt, toast, bagels, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juices) is included in the room rate. Breakfast is served from 6-9 on weekdays, 7-10 on weekends. The hotel also puts cookies out in the afternoon. Parking in the secure basement of the hotel is $5.00 per night. The only thing to be aware of is that, if you use the in-room safe you will be charged $1.09 per day...I did not see any signs and was not informed of this at check-in. It's honestly the only "negative" I have about my stay.
I can honestly say that the employees at this hotel are the friendliest I've encountered. They are absolutely professional, but also know their guests and are very engaging. Rooms are nicely decorated with pictures of local scenes and kept very nice. There is a microwave and small fridge in the room, and a computer in the lobby for your use. There is also wi-fi in the room.
As others have mentioned, Beale Street is a short 10-minute walk or a quick $1.00 tram ride. As a solo female traveler, I walked during the day/afternoon, but felt more comfortable taking the tram late at night. Panhandlers are out all the time, but are not aggressive.
For those interested in nightlife, every Wednesday in summer is bike night on Beale. The area comes alive with bikes, bikers and those out to observe both. A great bar is Silky O'Sullivan's, which has dueling pianos and a drink called the Diver (definitely something you don't want to drink alone!). The Peabody is a definite must-see ("Duck Walk" is at 11:00 and 5:00 daily). Also, a little place called the Creperie is located next to Peabody Place Mall...awesome breakfast, entree and dessert crepes made in front of you.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
