“Nothing spectacular, but it was fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2006

Went there with my husband a few weeks ago, and it was fun, but nothing too special. The pandas are really cool because they are hard to find in zoos now. The sea lion show was fun, and we got to see an elephant during a bathing session, that was really cute. They had a lot of different primates there also. Otherwise, if you have been to a bigger zoo, you may not be excited about this one.I have been t othe Indianapolis Zoo, which was really great, probably better than the Memphis Zoo, but I still had a lot of fun.

“Wonderful zoo, would definitely recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2006

If you are anywhere near the memphis area, you must check out this zoo! They are one of only four zoos in the u.s. to exhibit giant pandas. And they have spent $77 million in renovations since the early 1990's. Everything looks nice and new and clean. There is a sea lion show and also "keeper chats" where the zoo keepers tell about the animals. There are more than 3500 animals to see, plenty of places to eat, tram rides, and even a carousel. Definitely check this one out!

“A good day at the zoo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2006

Memphis has a nice zoo - not "world class", but nice. Parking was $3 and admission a steep $13 - but they have reciprocal agreements with other zoo membership organizations. So we got 50% off with our StL Zoo member card. You can also get $$ coupons on the Memphis Tourism website before you go.

Many of the older enclosures are really too tiny for the animals. Good to see them working on improving their exhibits. Watching the polar bears up close in the new Northwest Passage was really awesome. There was no charge to see the Pandas - only 4 U.S. zoos have Pandas so this was a treat. The beautiful exhibit area just before the Pandas included crazy playful monkeys too.

Bring a picnic lunch if you can as the cafe food was mediocre and overpriced. Few vegetarian choices, and no milk or fruit juices! If you eat inside the cafe, try to get a table by the windows so you can watch the monkeys watching YOU.

Definitely a nice way to spend a day.

“Good Zoo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2006

Good zoo. Nice to see the pandas - so close only a pane of glass seperates you from them. Otherwise this zoo is not too exciting. On our vacation we saw the Albuquerque zoo & the San Antonio zoo and were much more impressed with them.

“Nice day at the Zoo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2005

We spent the afternoon at the zoo and really enjoyed it. I hadn't been to a zoo in years, so it was just a treat to do something different. We thought that the facilities were good, and there was a lot to see. The China/Panda exhibit was really nice, and the Pandas were SOO cute! We went in off-season, so there was no extra charge to get in this exhibit. After the zoo, we checked out the Brooks Art Museum, which is right there. A very nice day.
