“Wanted dramatic peace”

I looked at the sample review before I wrote this, but it doesn't qualify this hotel. It is magnificently simple and touches the spot if you want to relax in an atmosphere of friendly staff, great food and a place to be if you want to just relax and chilll out.

You know when you come home from a trip and you think "My house looks great". I got this when I arrived at Corsewall and booked into the North Channel Suite. It had the comforts of home with fresh flowers and plants. Normally we look for things to do in our holiday spot, but this time we were glad to visit Stranraer for a couple of hours and come back and read in our spacious suite until it was time for dinner.

Dinner was amazing on our first night, with a five course dinner included.in the price The black pudding and haggis starter, with soup and Sorbet, followed by fillet steak was great, but the cheeseboard was so good that I asked for the supplier.

Breakfast, which included creamed porridge and bacon and eggs with black pudding and ........wait for it "HOT toast and tea"

I will definitely go back to the Corsewall Hotel, particularly at this time of year when the weather is dramatic, as the view, comfort, good food, attention to detail, and the friendliness of staff and patrons makes it one of my most memorable stays.

“Not quite the luxury we hoped”

Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel

We booked a weekend in october and stayed in the North Channel Suite because we have a small dog. The setting is splendid with good views over the sea and we did see some dolphins. The accommodation was spacious and clean and all right, nothing to complain at but nothing special. The bathroom was clean but ordinary. The food was good enough but not exceptional. A wedding party on Saturday afternoon overran and we had to wait in a very small lounge . When we were shown to our table the wedding party debris still covered the room and we were expected to have a romantic meal while they were clearing up around us and shifting the furniture. We said we would wait outside until they were prepared for us. I think they should have asked us to wait until they were properly ready and perhaps offered a free drink for the inconvenience.
I did feel it is extremely expensive for the standard. We paid £600 for the weekend( including £10 a night for the dog) for which we could have stayed at a truly luxurious country house hotel.

To those who rave this hotel so much, all I can say is that they must be easy to please. For the money asked per room this is not to the right standard. Food is excellent - no problems there. Room decor and generally tacky, shabbiness is another. for this price you expect smart decor, clean rooms, comfy beds and LCD TV's. Afterall they are making enough money why dont they invest it in the hotel decor?

If you know what you like and have high standards - go elsewhere.

after reading some of the reviews, we were apprehensive about stopping at the lighthouse but we needn't have worried.
the staff are very helpful and friendly.
whether the lighthouse has recently been decorated, we do not know but the place was fresh and spotless - a very pleasant surprise.
stopping at the lighthouse, was a lifetime experience for me and
the meals were fabulous, especially breakfast - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with bucks fizz.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience and well worth the visit.

We stayed at this hotel, having stayed several times before, this August. We stayed in a ground floor room with a meadow view, and loved it. The staff were not just friendly, but well informed and keen. They helped us make the most of our stay. The food and service is unequalled in my extensive experience of Scotland. Fresh produce, beautifully cooked, and served by friendly and professional staff were features of all the meals. The suites are even more special, we treated ourselves to one last year and were delighted with it.
