“Perfect Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

Just back from a relaxing two night break at this beautifully located hotel. Stunning views, wonderful food and welcoming staff. The Loch Ryan Suite was well equipped for us and our two dogs (the dog towels were a nice touch), and the bed was one of the best I have slept in for a very long time.

We chose this location for a short honeymoon after our wedding at Gretna Green and we were very happy with the reception we received. The bad news on arrival was the electricity had failed but the lighthouse by candlelight was so atmospheric we didn't care - it was restored shortly after arrival in any case. We stopped in the the 'North Channel Suite' which had magnificent views and although the decor was a little dated we could live with that. This suite was one of a number of buildings a short distance from the hotel itself and came equipped with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen area with all mod cons and a large lounge in the 'conservatory' part of the building that offered breathtaking views.
The highlight, after the beautiful location and the lighthouse itself, was the food prepared for our breakfasts and dinners which was consistently of an excellent standard, as was the service to table. The staff were a real credit to the Hotel, and this is reflected in the fact that some of the other guests we spoke to were had returned numerous times.
We visited a number of local places of interest. A local walk along the coast from the Lighthouse allowed us to see numerous types of birds, wild ponies and we even saw three deer grazing on the beach. Port Patrick was endearing even out of season and Stranraer had a number of useful shops for those little essentials. The only disappointing town we visited was Girvan which was like an off-season Blackpool, charmless and grim with many shops closed or void.
Overall, we had a very positive experience at Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel and it would be highly recommended to any couple looking for a slightly unusual yet intimate break.

Room Tip: WiFi is available but only in the main lighthouse building.

Great meal - good quality ingredients well cooked - and nice to be able to stay overnight. Galloway Room was lovely. Service good and very friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed our night out, and an excellent breakfast.

A cold, wet, wind lashed November night was turned into a very enjoyable experience by this hotel and it's friendly and helpful staff. The accomodation was warm, clean and of five star standard throughout, as was the cuisine. The wine cellar and bar were stocked to cater for the vast majority of tastes. I shall make a point of visiting again - soon.

We stayed for dinner, bed and breakfast for one night, following our marriage,on 19th October.

The welcome we received, and the ambience of the place, right on the ocean, alongside the working Lighthouse, were all first-class.

But the biggest plus was the standard of the restaurant! The dinner and the breakfast were just wonderful, and nothing was too much trouble.

The only let down was our choice of accommodation. The Ailsa Room, though sea-facing,and with private bathroom (not en-suite).Also with balcony, but incredibly tiny, with only just enough room to fit a double bed !

I notice that the hotel appears to be on the market for sale. It is looking old-fashioned and a little tired,so is in need of " a shot in the arm"!!!

Room Tip: Our advice would be to pay more for a larger room!!

My husband and I stayed here the night we got engaged … after having lost our engagement ring in Loch Lomond … It was a day/night we won't forget very easily for 2 reasons - one being the loss the engagement ring and the second being the incredible warmth, hospitality and generosity of the proprietors of the Corsewall Lighthouse and the lovely group of guests that night. We arrived rather dejected travelers with happy news to share and we left with a host of new pals. We stayed again when I was about 6 months pregnant with our son and will most certainly return one day in the future. Corsewall Lighthouse is part of our story forever.

I am sorry that your first visit was marred by the loss of your engagement ring at Loch Lomand and it is satisfying to know that your stay at Corsewall went some way to make up for your loss.

We look forward to meeting your son on your next visit.

My husband and I along with our son recently stayed at Corsewall Lighthouse and
it will be one of our favorite memories of our trip! We had the Lighthouse Suite which
has a stunning view. It is very well taken care of and everyone at Corsewall went out of
their way to make sure it was a pleasant experience. I was a bit concerned when I had
read some reviews complaining about rust and weeds...etc but I was quick to see that it
must have been people who really don't understand the beauty of a lighthouse and accommodations at a chain hotel for such individuals, might be a better "fit." For those who love the splendor of a working lighthouse and the stark beauty of nature, Corsewall Lighthouse is a must! To compliment our stay, the meal we were served in the evening was excellent and the staff very entertaining. We had the whole lighthouse to ourselves and when you factor in photography as one of your favorite hobbies, it was heaven! I encourage everyone to "take the road less traveled" and enjoy a very special place!
