Just returned from a two night stay at this excellent small hotel. Location in the village is ideal, a stones throw from the centre but away from the crowds and with breathtaking views. Staff are very friendly and food is excellent and reasonably priced. Room was a little dated but spotlessly clean. Overall, for the money, hard to beat.

“Brilliant”

Mount Stewart Hotel

My husband and i drove up from Bolton on a sunny Sunday morning at 9am, just after our daughter had gone to spain for a week with her school, so here was our chance of having a few days on our own in a wonderful part of Scotland, where we wanted a clean hotel, with excellent food, friendly owners and staff , brilliant views and and as we say in Bolton 'gradely folk', and by god we got it.

Diane and Dave who own the Hotel were warm friendly and really good company, nothing was too much trouble, even though it was Life boat week and was very very busy.
The room over looked the sea and the views were breathtaking.
You could see boats coming from Ireland (only 19 miles away) to meet the lifeboat in the harbor, where they had an open air service, and even though the hotel is on a bit of a hill you could here the service taking place. A pub further down in the village had music on, and yes, Elvis is still alive and well.!!!!!

Every B&B, every hotel, every nook and cranny was booked up so we were really lucky.
If you want beautiful views, a clean hotel, brilliant food and really friendly people then you must go to the Mount Stewart in Port Patrick, the whole place is ace.

The Mount Stewart is at the top of a small hill over looking the Bay and harbor and looks down into the village, where there are numerous hotels, pubs and places to eat so its a perfect location if you want to stay in your hotel or go into the village and mingle.

The food at the Mount is Fantastic and i mean fantastic, its is Moorish even though you cant eat another mouthful.
I'm vegetarian and the meals provided were tasty, filling and very good, but a larger choice in the vegie menu would have been a nice change rather than only having 2 meals to choose from.

The meals are all good value for money and for meat and fish eaters a very good choice, but for the vegis out there, don't be put off in the small choice, ask the chef and he will do anything for you.

We also eat in other Hotels and pubs and could not complain about anything.

My husband was deciding on whether or not to have the full breakfast but Jesse made the choice for him, 'Oh have the full breakfast and be done with it' what a character and not offensive or rude in any way , we had such a laugh.

Continued success to everyone at the Mount Stewart Hotel and many thanks to each and every one of you.
As Arnie said ' we'll be back'

Best wishes Carol and Tom from Bolton.

The wife and I went to the Mount Stewart after reading the glowing reviews posted here, and found the Hotel pretty much as described.
We arrived on a damp Friday, and were booked into a clean comfortable family room with a great view of the village and across to Northern Ireland( quite strange seeing those lights on the horizon at night).
The Hotel possesses this view thanks to its postion on a rise overlooking the village, with a short( some might find steep) path leading from the comparative bustle. On a good day the beer garden out front would be my kinda place!
As for the Hotel, our room had a good shower(but no bath), the food was excellent both in terms of quality and value (and yes I tried the Chicken!). My only grumble is that as with many Hotels in my native Scotland, breakfast times were pretty limited, being between 8am and 9am; surely this suits only the Hoteliers? An early worker would be away before 8am and holiday makers surely would mostly want a bit of a lie in..or is it just me? Anyway, that said, we intend to return to Portpatrick( this was our first visit), and I would go back to the Mount Stewart Hotel. Maybe they've got a Room Only option..

If you are considering Portpatrick as a destination for a quiet break away from the hustle and bustle of modern life then you have chosen well and I would certainly recommend Portpatrick and the Mount Stewart Hotel (a converted large Victorian House) which is perfectly situated within the village but away from the traffic and boasts the most stunning sea views across to Ireland and my home town of Donaghadee!

The peaceful little village itself nestles around the historic and picturesque old harbour of Portpatrick within the rugged west coast of Scotland and is an excellent base to discover the Logan Botanic Gardens, Castle Kennedy or for those of you who are not feint hearted climb the stairs of the 26metre high Mull of Galloway Lighthouse perched high on top of the cliffs at the far end of this beautiful peninsula!

If like me however you sometimes just want to relax and sample a tipple from the bar after a stroll around the harbour then the Mount Stewart is perfect! Whether you are relaxing inside the cosy bar or outside sunning yourself in the beer garden, both have exceptional views in which you can while away the hours watching the small boats coming and going from the harbour!

One of the main reasons I choose the Mount Stewart Hotel above all other more famous establishments in the village (apart from the fact that it does have the best sea & harbour views of course) is the welcome & personal service I have noticed everyone coming here gets from the owners Diane and Dave and when they are looking after other guests there is always a friendly local willing to make any visitor feel welcome with a story, joke or as they say in Ireland “good craic”!

When I am on holiday I always look forward to a relaxed evening meal and in this Hotel you have a vast choice of wonderful bar meals throughout the day or a lovely candlelit dinner in the restaurant while watching the twinkle of the villages and lighthouses along of the Irish coast. I would strongly advise anyone eating here to try the Royal Stewart Chicken, a carved breast of chicken, stuffed with haggis, wrapped in bacon and accompanied by a whisky, mushroom & ham sauce. If this dish is ever removed from the menu then my first and only complaint about the hotel will be sent to the Proprietors in writing!

Last but not least are the Bedrooms… Look out for the four-poster room, with it’s window seat and tremendous views where Champagne and flowers can be arranged upon request prior to your arrival!

Finally, If you are looking for a sterile Hotel which is part of a large chain of Hotels like the one’s we are sent on for business trips with flat screen TV’s and 40+ rooms (not to mention any names for fear of being sued) then this Hotel is not for you but if your fussy like me (ask my wife!) and want somewhere to stay with an unique character of it’s own then this is the place to stay or eat-out in Portpatrick!
