“A wee gem”

The Waterfront Hotel

Jul 7, 2008

My husband and I were looking for a change from our usual areas for a weekend break and what a lovely find the Waterfront was. I almost booked the Crown and was so glad to get the Waterfront next door. It is more like a guesthouse than hotel ,its cosy friendly and has a great outlook. We booked a small seaview room. Yes the room is very small infact one of the smallest ensuites we have ever had . Came back thinking that we could convert wardrobes at home. However as they say small is beautiful. The room was freshly decorated, spotlessly clean and had a great view over the bay, with the Crown next door you would expect some noise however that wasn't the case. The bar is compact and ideal for the number of guests and those visiting the restaurant. The wine by the glass was a good selection and price. The bar food looked great, we just had a portion of whitebait ,it was lovely. The restaurant doubled up in the morning for breakfast. The selection was fine ie juice, cereal, hot breakfast which was lovley and fresh. We didn't eat at night in the hotel as we chose Campbells (great seafood menu) ,if we go back to the Watefront will defintely give the restaurant a go. Portpatrick is a lovely seaside town ,very quite and relaxing ,after a heavy week at work it was lovely to chill out.

“Fabulous Staff”

The Waterfront Hotel

Mar 27, 2008

The Waterfront Hotel, has clean rooms, standard rooms, compact and tiny, but very, very clean. Remember to ask for a front door key if you are out for the night, otherwise you may find yourself locked out. Room 7 has the water supply pipes running through a pipe chase at the room door and it is VERY noisy so not ideal if you like a quiet time. The staff we would have to say were fantastic and the service could not be faulted. Eat in this hotel, forget the Crown its AWFUL, dont waste your money. Spend it at The Waterfront.

“Hurry up and get out”

The Waterfront Hotel

Jan 25, 2008

Lovely welcome by Raphael, he carried my bag up to the room and gave us all info needed. Breakfast was spoiled by disgusting sausages, I was informed that it was a fresh box and that it was my taste at fault by the very hoity Ann, no apology. Locals assured us that the chef had a great reputation but after the sausages we dined elsewhere. The bedroom was lovely with the view well worth the extra £, however, the shower-room was a very small cupboard and ladies I advise going in backwards. The hotel was spotless, the room was lovely and the housekeeper was very keen to know if we were comfortable and warm enough, again however on our last morning as she caught me going down for breakfast about 9.30ish and bearing in mind that check-ot time is 11am she totally shocked me by requesting to go in and strip our bed. The more I think about this the ruder it seems and really spoiled the last morning of a well needed break

“The Jewel in the Cleft”

The Waterfront Hotel

We have stayed once at the hotel but have dined there many times. The welcome is always warm and genuine and the room that we had was comfy and cosy and superbly furnished.
The food in the restaurant was superb on all of the twenty or so occasions that we have dined there and the wine selection was carefully and tastefully selected.
Having stayed in many hotels over many years this small and intimate location has regularly exceeded our expectations and has become one of our firm favorites for a holiday location.

“Nice place, nice people but the smallest, most expensive, rooms in the world”

I have never seen such small rooms in my life. The bathroom was also incredibly small, we wondered how we could manage so one of us had to lay in the bed while the other showered. In addition the hotel was about £90/$200 per night which in my view was a complete rip off for this quality level of room even for the UK. In fact I would have to say that this is not really a hotel as such but a guesthouse. Nice people though and the area's beauty made up for the fleecing!
