My wife and I booked into The Maxwell Arms Hotel on the back of the reports on Tripadvisor. What a pleasant surprise was waiting. The minute we entered the hotel we knew this was a diamond.
Sheila the owner met us at the door, and welcomed us. I have a few health issues, so she summoned a member of staff to come and help us with our bags. The room can only be described as SPOTLESS, large, comfortable and warm, the bed was excellent.
The en suite was superb, the shower was great for me as I have mobility problems, it is big.
And that is the WORST bit LOL.
The restaurant is to die for. Sheila's husband Ali is the chef and has created one or two of his own sauces. I swear they are like an angel dancing on your tongue, you have to try the chicken naga, warm, not to warm but is a pure taste of heaven. I like Indian food, but the quality and care that is put into "The Taj Mahal" menu and service is above and beyond the call of duty. Even if you don't go to stay in the hotel, go and eat in the restaurant, and go on a Sunday. From 17.00hrs to 21.00hrs/22.00hrs you can eat all you want for £10.95. This is the bargain of the century, with an unlimited choice.
The staff are great, kind, funny and helpful. No issue is any problem.
We went for a wee Friday/Saturday break and finished up booking an extra night and we stayed the Sunday also. The breakfast is ENORMOUS, cooked to perfection, but if you want a more subtle toast (with real butter :o) bacon and scrambled eggs IT IS DONE for you. Cereals, juice, toast, marmalade, kippers, you name it.
At £70 for your room and breakfast, this is one of the best deals I ever had.
The Maxwell can be summed up in one word:
We had a room on the front on the main road with no problems. The traffic is pretty low in Dalbeatti...
