This was our second visit to the Royal Hotel with Highland Heritage Tours. It is an olde-worlde hotel with lots of character and an entrance full of colourful plants and flowers. Our superior room was light, airy with two windows overlooking the gardens. Although on a busy road it was very peaceful at night. It had tea/coffee facilities, hairdryer, etc and a beautiful Ensuite bathroom with towelling robes. It was always clean and tidy on our return from the daily trip. The food, tasty and ample, however there was also an award-winning fish and chip establishment, a restaurant at the Green Welly Stop and a pub within a 5/10 minute walking distance of the hotel. There was In-house entertainment, music, comedy, Scottish dancing, etc, every evening in the bar. Across from the bar there was a quieter area where you could sit, relax and have a chat. The tours ran like clockwork and the scenery was just breathtaking. We were lucky to be blessed with lovely weather. On this occasion, however, we were with friends, one of whom suddenly fell ill. The managers, especially Alex, and all the staff were terrific, nothing was too much rouble. As our friends were unable to travel on their own the hotel made the Stena booking alterations for us all to travel home together a day earlier and even arranged for us to take a taxi from the hotel straight to Stranraer. The hotel has since been in contact with us and we won't forget their kindness and thoughtfulness. Up until illness struck, we were all enjoying a lovely holiday and hope to be back again sometime in the future.
Superior Room (Extra Cost well worth it) - more spacious & luxurious
