We were a bit wary about going as they had a wedding on that day but we decided to bite the bullet. So glad we did. Although the public areas are still to be refurbished and the conservatory to be built we had a lovely welcome and check-in was flawless. The rooms have all now been fully refurbished and are very modern. I especially liked the flat screen tv and being a girl, the hairdryer and the ironing board and iron.

We had dinner that evening and the food was excellent and the service was very good.

Our room was at the back away from the wedding party but we didn't hear a thing that evening.

Breakfas was included and was great.

I would definitely go back just to see what the finished hotel looks like.

As previous reviewers have said the renovation work was well underway (rooms are done and now it is all happening downstairs in the reception area) and to be honest there was minimal disturbance when my wife and I stayed for two nights (Friday/Saturday). Our room was very comfortable, spacious and clean. All mod cons with Wi-Fi and a good sized flat screen TV.

We were on a DBB deal and although the choices was limited to three starters, mains and desserts they were all above average. Some more experienced waiters are needed so some small things made us smile e.g. when asked if they had a wine list the waiter replied that he thought so and would check if they did. Eventually a very reasonable wine list appeared and we were happy with our choice. On the second night we all had grilled fish with a leek sauce and this was one of the tastiest fish dishes I've eaten and was worthy of a much more expensive hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We would stay here again and expect it to get better and better. The location is wonderful and as for previous reviewers comments on the church clock striking being annoying we all rather enjoyed it.

I regularly travel to the area from Bristol. Reports on this hotel were not good but a flood at the Duck Bay Marina had forced me to look elsewhere for accommodation. This led me to this hotel. I certainly thought i was taking a risk but io couldn't find anywhere else.

The Rooms were excellent. The staff had said that the rooms were in a sorry state previously which the previous reviews seem to have covered very well.

This is certainly not the case now. Completely referbished rooms with
clean well designed comtemporary facilities and a flat screen tv to boot! Now booking a trip for the family - yes its that good.

This hotel is certainly on the up!

Congratulations on the renovations they are EXCELLENT.

PS now i dont stay anywhere else....!

I feel I must defend this hotel, we have just returned from a tinsel and turkey all inclusive break. We were a party of six and we all agreed that the previous reviews were unjust..Our room was large and airy, the bathroom must have had a refit because it was sparkling. The food was good and plentiful and we never once heard the church clock striking [maybe our room was well positioned]. We found the staff delightful and very helpful. Although not a lot of entertainment the staff did organise something each night..Only fault no lift but we knew that before we booked. So all in all a very good break and we would certainly go back.

Having returned home after a one-night stay here, I felt compelled to defend this place!

My room was warm and cosy, despite the fact the bathroom could do with re-papering. The avocado bathroom suite was from 1973 when the hotel was fitted out, but there's nothing wrong with that. The bath was longer than mine at home and the water was red hot and in ample supply.

The chiming bells from the church tower were audible, but didn't wake me even though I'm a light sleeper.

The reception rooms were clean and tidy though in need of some refurbishment. The evening meal was far beyond my expectations and would have cost a small fortune in a restaurant in a bigger city. The hot self-service breakfast was gorgeous too, with no scrimping. There was also a good supply of cereals, fruits and juices as well as coffee, tea and toast.

The staff were fantastic, with nothing too much bother for them.

I'd recommend this hotel to anybody except those with the highest expectations. It's comfortable and clean, quite homely and very hospitable. I'm back in the area in a few weeks and will be staying there again. A refurbishment is currently under way.
