“Like visit good friends”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

Joan and Gordon are wonderful hosts. We could stay in their house for one night before leaving Scotland at the end of our holiday. Just 30 minutes away from Glasgow airport. We were welcomed like old friends, it was like to be at home and at the same time everything was perfect like in 4 stars hotel. The house is very charming, in an elegant quarter, with two beautiful rooms and one magnificent bathroom. Roses, little cakes and tee in the bedroom, Scottish dinner homemade from bread to icecream! rich breakfast with fresh fruits and all you can desire. For us was a great pleasure to meet them and come back home with this particular Scottish experience.

I stayed 2 wonderful nights at Helensburgh b&b.
On arrival I was welcomed by Joan then I met Gordon.
The welcome is sincere and friendly.
I was then shown to my room a double at the back of the house.
The room has the wow factor, well decorated, with quality furnishings.
The bed is very comfortable which made for a good nights sleep.
The bedding is of good quality.
It is very peaceful and quiet at night.
Wifi is available throughout the house with no signal issues.
A good selection of teas and ground coffee with biscuits is available in your room.
The bathroom is across from your room.
The bathroom is luxurious well fitted with a warm power shower.
Toiletries are provided with lovely soft towels.
I had my evening meals there they are fantastic I had a 3 course dinner on both evenings, the food is of a high quality all home made, Gordon is a fantastic cook.
I highly recommend Helensburgh b and b.
Gordon, Joan and Alison are excellent hosts, they cannot do enough for you, they welcome you into their home and treat you as part of the family, rather than a paying guest.
High levels of service and customer care are what you will receive when you stay there.
Hazel and Heidi the gorgeous retrievers are lovely and friendly always ready to welcome and greet you (already missing them).
Thank you for looking after me will definitely stay again
All the best.

Room Tip: All rooms are of a high standard.

On arrival you are greeted affectionately by your hosts Hazel and Heidi. If you're lucky you'll get a kiss and cuddle as you walk through the door. Once shown to your room H and H will join you for a cuddle - that's if the humans don't get in the way. H and H are the resident Golden Retrievers. This isn't to say Joan and Gordon won't greet you warmly but the dogs make a house a home. Breakfast is fresh cooked by Gordon and H and H will help you with anything you can't finish. You must try Gordon's bread. A perfect place for a quiet night of sleep and a good base of exploring.

Dear Maya
We loved your review - thank you!

It was great that you spent great quality time with us, quietly encouraging us to sneak into the dining room for titbits, and giving us great tickles and tummy-rubs! We really enjoyed our frequent play-times with you!!

We hope you enjoy the rest of your trip to the UK and can manage to come back soon to give us more tummy tickles and breakfasts!

Lots of licks

I stayed just one night at Helensburgh B&B and was sorry not to have longer to enjoy it. Joan and Gordon were very attentive and welcoming hosts to their family home. I was grateful for their flexibility as I was attending an evening wedding reception and they were considerate of the fact that I would be returning quite late and that I also might want a slightly later breakfast the following morning! Very comfortable and homely room with all details thought of, including tea and coffee, bathrobe and slippers, television. Exceptionally clean room and bathroom. Breakfast was also very good with home made bread, fruit, cereals and cooked breakfast. Although I was the only guest staying on that day I was still offered a lots of choice for breakfast and was very well looked after. I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast.

Our first trip to Scotland, and what a wonderful experience to be welcomed to! Hosts, Gordon and Joan welcomed us so warmly to their beautiful home with outstanding accommodations, fantastic meals, two charming golden retrievers, and a piano recital by Joan! Just a short drive away is the darling lakeside town of Luss where we visited Loch Lomond and the village in Luss. Both Gordon and Joan take such pride in providing everything travelers need on their journey through Helensburgh. We four had a delightful time in Whistler's Dell with our lovely, lovely hosts! Hope to come back again...Michèle and travel mates.

When my husband and I stayed here for four nights in July 2013 we were warmly welcomed by Gordon and Joan, their daughter plus two friendly golden retrievers Hazel and Heidi.

Their home is modern and absolutely beautiful, in a quiet situation in the village of Rhu just a few minutes from Helensburgh. Everything was well cared for, spotlessly clean, and the bathroom for our use was large and well-appointed with thoughtful toiletries provided in addition to ample fluffy towels.

Our bedroom had a comfortable sofa, plenty of wardrobe space (with hangers) and drawers, well-placed lighting and a gorgeous view of hills and mountains beyond the Gareloch from the window. There was a kettle for making hot drinks, with a good choice of various teas and coffee, plus shortbread and chocolates to tempt us. A hairdryer was also provided, with lots of power sockets in the room for personal electrical items. However, we felt it was a shame that the bed was a 4'6" double rather than a more comfortable 5'0" queen/king especially as there was plenty of space in the room for a larger bed.

Gordon and Joan were great hosts, and very helpful and patient with our various enquiries. I recommend in particular Gordon's cooking: breakfast each morning was a wonderful feast of fresh fruits, cereals and porridge, home-squeezed fruit juice, eggs and bacon etc. plus home-baked bread amd roast. At our request, he cooked dinner for us on two evenings, both meals being delicious and served with great panache!

Just before our departure Joan, who is a talented musician, treated us to a short piano recital played on her grand piano in the drawing-room: beautiful music in a lovely setting, giving us a memory we will treasure as part of a magical break in Scotland. Even the weather was perfect, blue skies and hot sunshine all the time we were there.

Needed a place to stay during a short business trip to Scotland and decided on Whistler's Dell. Gordon and Joan were the most welcoming of hosts to their wonderful home not to mention the two lovely dogs. An impressive level of service that really does set the standard and Gordon deserves a special mention for the quality of his cooking. I will definitley be staying here when I need to be up this way again, can't recommend it highly enough.
