Staying at Mansewood is always something to look forward to. We rarely leave there without having a plan for our next visit.
We started staying there as an overnight staging post for journeys to and from the North of Scotland. Our first visit coincided with the arrival of the new enthusiastic owners, Sharon and Alan, some 18 months ago. Indeed we were their first guests!
Some seven or eight visits later, we continue to use it both as a staging post and for holidays based there. It has to be good otherwise we would not do a round trip of some 900 miles for a long weekend!
Mansewood is an attractive building set back from the road and there is good parking within the grounds. The accommodation exceeds expectations having received the careful attention of Alan and Sharon. Each bedroom is distinctively decorated with creative and attractive modern finishing touches. Cleanliness is a given and the freshly laundered crisp white Egyptian cotton bed linen is a delight.
Alan and Sharon give you a warm welcome and have created an atmosphere that is friendly and professional. You can relax away from your room in the Bar area, the lounge or on the well kept lawn. Mansewood well merits its star ratings and we think it is good value.
Sometimes in Scotland it is not easy to find a good evening meal at or close to where you are staying. A further attraction of Mansewood is the fact that a high quality dinner is available without going outside the door! The flexible menu offered by Sharon meets most people’s needs - three courses if you wish, but the choice is yours. Our usual problem is making a selection from the tempting dishes on offer! One of the specialities we like is the carefully sourced smoked mackerel from the Shetland Isles and there are other more locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast provides an enjoyable start to the day.
There is ready access to nearby walks. We don’t attempt anything strenuous but enjoy walking up to the old railway track which is now a designated footpath stretching for miles with glorious views. A comfortable stroll before dinner to stimulate the appetite for what is to come!
There is a useful range of leaflets and information about places to visit and experience during your stay. We find Lochearnhead a good base for day trips West, East or North. That said, the local weather is often better than some of the other places you might be tempted to go to. It is not uncommon to be reminded of this when returning from a day elsewhere with mediocre weather to be greeted by Alan with the phrase “Well, we’ve had a lovely day here”!
We are devotees of Mansewood as you will see from the above. However it is not just us. Often we join guests who have already been there for a few days and are equally enthusiastic.
