I know everyone has their own views and standards, but this place is simply the pits. We arrived at 5:30pm on a wild and stormy February evening. After fighting with the doors against the wind (to close them, not open them!) we waited a few minutes before either of the two staff at the desk condescended to attend to us. We were booked in quickly, and taken up in an old elevator to our room on the second floor. The maid opened the door and we were promptly met with the full force of the gale outside; someone had left the window open and, needless to say, the room was freezing. The maid ran off to check on another room for us and took us to that one, on the top floor. This was advertised as a double en-suite. If I said it would have been impossible to swing a cat in the room it would not be an exaggeration; it was tiny, and very poorly lit by the single bulb high up on a sloping ceiling. The bathroom, of course, was even smaller; you had to manouvre around the toilet fitting in order to open the door from inside, and the shower looked extremely dubious. The room itself was very drab and dark. The curtains were hanging off the rails - in fact when we tried to adjust them, they fell off entirely. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls, and the carpet felt sticky underfoot. We made an immediate decision not to stay, and returned to the reception desk and told them we were leaving and why. They did not appear to be very worried about any of that, despite the fact that there were very few other guests in evidence. By this time, the gale outside was blowing the outer doors wide and blowing straight through the foyer and into the bar area beyond. I think from the time we walked in the front door until we walked back out again must have been all of 10 minutes, tops. This hotel is a total disgrace and I would be ashamed if this were to be what passed for good hotel accommodation for tourists. Anyone coming from abroad would wonder what exactly Scotland thinks of its tourist trade, and I note from the hotel's own website that it has no stars, rosettes or other classification awards. That ought to have set alarm bells ringing when I considered making the booking, but I based my decision on the previous reviews here on TripAdvisor - thanks for nothing guys! All in all, a dreadfull experience, and I would urge fellow travellers to give the Killin Hotel as wide a berth as possible.
