We'd taken the ferry from Tarbet to Inversnaid, arrival time 12 noon. Our immediate thought was to have a nice lunch on what was a dry but chilly day. I have stayed at this hotel before, I have fond memories of simple good hearty cooking.
We entered the hotel lobby, nobody in sight. The dining room door was closed. We walked through to the bar where we found a friendly barman. He confirmed only bar food was available. Oh well, not what we were hoping but we were hungry and ordered fish and chips twice. It was either that or burgers.
The food when it arrived was processed fish, deep fried and close to burnt, presented in plastic take away containers, complete with a sachet of vinegar and ketchup and plastic knife and fork. Not quite what I was expecting. Thankfully I wasn't staying in the hotel, the idea of paying for a room and suffering such poor quality food would've been disastrous.
I am glad to say there are many good restaurants located around Loch Lomond. This hotel may be the only offering in Inversnaid but that is no excuse for such poor catering standards.
