really run down and rooms are tiny, would be lovely if it was renovated, shame, missed breakfast as it finished at 9.30 and they took everything away!! it has a lovely setting but it takes a walk throught grounds to go into gartmore with one shop and one pub!

Room Tip: the place looked haunted!

We knew as we approached the hotel that this was not going to be a good experience for us! We drove down an extremely pot-holed road to reach the impressive building which is unfortunately in urgent need of exterior repairs. Directly opposite the hotel are dormitory style dilapidated buildings which are an eyesore and which spoil the immediate surroundings of the hotel. The interior of the building has been redecorated and was a pleasant surprise after the impressions of the exterior. Our small bedroom was clean however the bathroom required bleaching to get rid of mouldy grouting. The outlook from the bedroom and bathroom displayed the dire need of exterior repairs such as rotten windowsills and an extremely rusty fire escape. The food at dinner was simple and plain but not to our taste and the £6 supplement for steak was not worth the money. There was no atmosphere at all in the whole "hotel" during our stay. Breakfast was awful. We went down in ample time for breakfast but there were no eggs left. When we asked for more we were told that the chef had washed up already!! Very perturbed that our credit card details were written down including the security code as there was no machine....felt very uneasy about this and asked for the details to be returned and paid cash for our drinks instead. The saving grace was that the staff are friendly but this is not what we classify as a hotel even at the Itison rate. Apppreciated that others have enjoyed their stay but we won't be back nor recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the front

Had the great pleasure to book an overnight stay and evening meal in this hotel ,,fantastic ,,my wife and myself are away a lot of weekends to various hotels so we have a pretty good idea of what Scotland has to offer .The Building is quite old and in need of some tidying up but this only adds to the charm of the place ,the carpets although slightly worn were not threadbare ,and as for the rooms (we were in 208 ) they were clean and very well maintained . The evening meal was lovely and the staff just could not have been more helpful . My wife and myself will revisit this beautiful hotel and enjoy the peace and tranquility of all they have to offer ,,Thank you Gartmore House

Room Tip: Trust in the advice the staff have to offer ,they will go out of their way to accommodate you

Having just checked out of the Gartmore House after booking through Itison, I can honestly say this is one of the worst hotels we have stayed in. The location is pleasant and the building has obviously been very grand many years ago. Unfortunately it is now run down in need of repair and lacking in any facilities that are
associated with modern day hotels. The rooms were very basic and poorly maintained. The food was ok, the staff were friendly and the saving grace was the Black Bull hotel in the nearby village which is a nice wee pub.
All in all this is best to be avoided unless you are involved in embroidery workshops

My husband and i stayed at Gartmore House last night with a itison deal, and what a fabulous building this is, yes it does need updated but everything was immaculately clean. Our bedroom and bathroom were enormous with the most amazing views, with the wallace monument in the far distance. The staff are really nice A real chilled out night and we cant wait to go back.

We bought it on an itison deal for £69 for b&b and earning meal, on arrival the first impressions were not good, the whole exterior gave the impression that it was in need of some major refurbishment, the window frames were rotten and all of the paint was pealing off with also some windows boarded up. After booking in we climbed the stair case where the carpets were worn through to reach our room on the first floor No 209, the room was very spacious but there was only myself and partner why were we given a room with 4 single beds? the rooms decor was very dated to say the least, there was holes in the carpet that was covered over with a hand towel, two of the chairs were torn, the bathroom seat was broken. On a better note the evening meal was first class served by friendly staff, this was horribly let down by the buffet breakfast which was very poor. All in all this could be a fantastic hotel with its location but it will take some major refurbishment to bring it up to scratch. Won't be back I'm afraid.

OK the building is a bit tired, but that apart we had a lovely weekend stay. The bedroom was spacious and clean. Staff very friendly and the meals were good value as part of the itison deal. Complimentary bottle of wine went down a treat. We managed to survive without a television!
