“Fantastic stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

We were all given this stay as a Christmas present from my son. On arrival reception staff were lovely and welcoming. On arrival into our rooms we were very surprised at the size of the rooms large and nicely laid out huge bed which was very comfy. We had a meal in the hotel which was very nice indeed. Will not hesitate to use this hotel again. Thanks Buchanan Arms for a lovely stay.

We stayed at this hotel from 16/02/2013 until 17/2/2013 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I got this as a present for my partner and booked into the Haven Spa aswell for a treatment, we got the swedish massage thoroughly recommended. We decided to go for some lunch which was great, prices quite resonable and beverages also not too pricey. When we arrived at the hotel we were greated warmly by the receptionist who allocated us to room 41, when we got into the room it was lovely and clean, so no complaints we noticed the TV didnt work, but didnt really think too much about it, however thought we should say to the receptionist who send someone one up right away it came back they couldnt fix it, so they moved us room, which was room 4 and OMG it was exclusive to say the least absolutley stunning and gorgeous views from the windows. Hotel pool facilites very clean and chilled. The pool was lovely and warm, my partner used the sauna and steam room which he states was very good. Steam room a tad small, but wasnt busy, so didnt occur an issue. We booked a table for dinner at 7.30pm and this was delicious a 3 course meal which gave lots of variety, breakfast in the morning was a good variety aswell, so well recommended. We decided to take a walk into Drymen after dinner and was lovely a few guest houses/hotels, there was a pub which was at the corner, which looked great. If you get chance to go up to the viewpoint make sure you do as it gives you an amazing view of Loch Lomond.

The hotel was fully booked, however lacked some entertainment, which we feel would have been enjoyed by all guests.

Overall great stay for the deal we got online!

Room Tip: Thoroughly recommended, enjoyed every minute.

Enjoyed a repeat visit for overnight stay at Buchanan Arms in Drymen using "Classic Britain" voucher deal of £20 pp. Great deal at greta hotel and location.

Reception staff friendly and hotel rooms clean with great restaurant, it was snowing outside but the coal fire helped make it an enjoyable stay - we will return.

room was a poky wee hole, bed was smaller than a standard double bed and wasnt really any good for two adults. you have to pay to upgrade to a bigger room, hotel doesnt state that bed isnt standard double
staff were nice and friendly though and snacks in bar were lovely.
i wouldnt return here as the room we had was more suited as a single room and i feel i was hoodwinked by the hotel.
leisure facilities were good.

Room Tip: ask about size of bed and stat you dont want anything but standard double bed. or book at the whinn...

Dear Guests

i thank you for your comments, our standart rooms have 4foot 6 wide beds, which is a british double bed, our superiour and master rooms all have super kingsize beds and account for more then 60% of our room stock. I was sorry to hear you could not get a good nights sleep in the cramped bed and please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you wish to book the hotel again and i will ensure we will offer you a free upgrade to one of our superiour rooms.

My sister and I went for a spa experience and afternoon tea...was very, very poor! Reception helpful and pointed us in the right direction to the spa...felt like a step back in time...poor was okay size but changing rooms, tiles etc were very worn and almost dirty! Sauna was a built as an "add on" at the end of the pool and was tiny...steam room was worse...with a cut up bath mat on a seat covering a crack! You had to pay 50p for a towel too!!! Nothing to remove make up...no stuff in showers etc...my local swimming pool has a more spa feel about it...Should not be advertised as a spa experience!
Afternoon tea was poor too...after we managed to get service...we could not have had more than 2/3 bits of bread between 2 with very basic fillings...the cakes were lovely :-) However we ended up having a good day having a laugh at the situation!

We went for 2 day break with friends, rooms were tiny so much so we had to move the bed against the wall to get some room to move about. Rooms were also a bit tired and dated but clean enough, the reception areas were very nice and coal fires were a lovely touch. Both nights there was a lot of noise from guests returning screaming and shouting and a very squeaky door at end off corridor that woke us a few times through the night. The pool was lovely and warm and jacuzzi was fab roasting and bubbly. Changing rooms a bit grubby and floors were wet and slippy, boh days we had to wait for towels. Meals both night were very tasty and service was speedy the men thought the portions were a bit small but it was enough for female friend and I. Breakfast on the Sunday was a bit if a disaster we were down at 9.30 on a Sunday probably busiest time and there was no food left, there was a line along the hot food station and the brought out 7 sausages. The staff were apologetic but took over 40 mins to resolve, the staff on the whole very friendly and keen to help. We had treatments in the spa which were great staff lovely and not too pricey. Bit of a mixed bag and would go back only if they were doing deal.

Room Tip: We were on ground floor so rooms o. A higher level might be bigger. Nice wee room with computer wit...

I thank you for your comments, we offer a range of differnt room types, as you suspected, they range in size and style, the room you stayed in during your recent brake was a standard room, our superiour and master rooms all offer king size beds and additional space, of the 52 bedrooms here in the hotel we only have 12 standard rooms.
We alocate these if guests specifically booked these and after this on a basis of rate for room paid.
I apologize for the delay you experienced at the breakfast on your second day.

We arrived on Friday afternoon for a 3 night stay. All be it, on our Tesco vouchers, but I hope that would not make a difference to what room we got! Receiptionist was extremely nice and told us all we needed to know.
On entering the room, you could see right away that the rooms are tired and in need of redecoration and upgrading. The windows (very small in both bedroom and bathroom) were constantly covered in condensation. The walls are in real need of a lick of paint. You can see where there has been pictures on the walls and these have been removed. The rooms are clean but very dated, and the bedlinen is bland and uninviting.
Our son was with us and was to sleep in the bed settee. On the first morning we had to ask for a mattress protector which we got very quickly I have to add.
On the third night, the bed broke and we had to ask them to put a board under the mattress to get us by.
The breakfast service is not the greatest and most of the time the food was luke warm.
On the whole the staff are excellent and could not be nicer, but it really is time for them to spend a bit of money on the upstairs. The floors are extremely creeky in the corridors and the walls are paper thin.
I won't hurry back, although we enjoyed the spa facilities.

Room Tip: We were in room 31, which is very close to the upstairs entrance to the spa. It was OK!
