We love Scotland and we have had so many great experiences in other places over the past 2 years that I think it is reason that this time,
it was quite an ordinary stay.
The hotel from the outside is great. It is huge and the spa/gym facilities are super and modern. Unfortunately, the rest of the hotel is quite dated: peeling paint in breakfast room; our room was big but the heating in the bathroom didn't work (and it was snowy and cold outside this January); also, they have a very lovely lounge, but most of the seats seem to have lost all support.
We didn't try the restaurant for lunch nor dinner but we did have our breakfast there both mornings and unfortunately, again, it was one of the worse cooked Scottish breakfast I have ever had (cold toasts, poached egg that was almost boiled, cold and soggy potato scone, etc.). The staff was so young and unexperienced that they seemed unable to manage a half full breakfast room. Compared to other hotels/
B&B in the area, I would not recommend it. There are other places around just a great to enjoy Loch Lomond and where you can also find better pubs and restaurants around to eat something (the pub across the street from Buchanan Arms was quite awful too...)
