We went here on a recommendation from the owners of the B&B we were staying in just around the corner (Braeside).
We hadn't booked, but we were seated without any problems. Menus were brought over quickly and a drinks order taken.
We didn't have starters but went for mains and desserts. My partner ordered the steak and ale pie and veg, which came with a choice of topping (Pastry, mash potato or sliced potato) - this was a really nice touch! I had the homemade curry of the day - which was Chicken Balti, and that came with rice and poppadoms and chutney.
The pie was absolutely delicious, and I wish I had also ordered that. My curry, although nice and definitely homemade, was very tomatoey (as in they had added tins of tomato to chicken and onions) and more temperature hot than spice hot. There was no real depth of flavour there that you would expect from a curry due to the lack of spices. On the plus side, there was plenty of chicken.
The dessert menu was quite original and was a selection of the actual desserts brought to the table on a board and the waiting staff explained what they were. I ordered the panacotta and there was so much of it in the bowl!
Overall, the portions were a good size, the selection was good and the food was homemade and piping hot. The atmosphere was also pleasant as there were quite a few tables in eating.
I would recommend this pub for a quick bite, but perhaps not for a special occasion.
