Stayed for 2 nights, 31st Oct/1st Nov. Cold and wet but the room was heated quite quickly, We stayed in one of the cottages but didn't realise that there were 4/5 other rooms and not just 1 or 2 as we thought (this isn't stipulated on their website). Had a meal on the 1st night and it was "ok". Steak pie, boiled potatoes and wet veg and chicken and leek pie with frozen chips and wet veg. As a previous reviewer said, no area to sit and just have a drink, you feel obliged to leave as soon as you've eaten. Back to the room we went. Breakfast next day, yum! Full Scottish! Not!! Make your own toast after a selection of cereals and tinned fruit. Then a hot box with breakfast items. This is when it gets interesting. Box 1: Haggis, passable. Box 2: Beans, cannae really go wrong. Box 3: Sausages, 3 left so I took 2 as there was a queue behind me. Box 4: Bacon, jeezo, the end bits from 4 slices of bacon left, overcooked (the bits you would feed your dog). Box 5: Scrambled eggs, bit grey aboot the gills, not entirely edible looking and not my favourite way of having eggs but no other choice available. Box 6: Tinned mushrooms, nope!. Box 7: Grilled tomatoes. So my full Scottish was beans and sausage... Ah well, least said, soonest mended. Dinner that night we decided to get a takeaway from the bar. PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T!! I've had better burgers from the shows or a market stall. My partner never ate his but I did eat some, big mistake! Really disgusting, sore tummy all night. The chips (we paid for an extra portion in case they were a wee bit meansy), well what a waste of money, on the odd occasion I buy frozen chips at home, the ones that I paid for, £2.70, were like the ones I would normally throw in the bin at home. £20 we paid for this, and in the bin it went (ask the staff member who cleaned our room next day), the only saving grace was the salad we paid ott for, thank goodness we had some cheese and bread in the room as there is nowhere else to eat in Balmaha. We won't be back in a hurry.
Poor wifi in rooms but very good in bar itself but pity there's nowhere to have a relaxing drink...
