“Balmaha Bunkhouse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

I stayed at the bunkhouse whilst walking the 'West Highland Way' and it was very good value for money for the service provided. Upon arrival we were given a tour of the bunkhouse and shown how to operate the shower, kitchen appliances and given directions to the local establishments should we wish to use them.

The bunkhouse has fantastic views across Loch Lomond and is perfectly placed for walking or using other features on the Loch.

My family and I decided to explore Loch Lomond by Canoe. We rented a canoe directly at the reception of Balmaha House. Jock explained us very detailed what we have to know about safety and places we can visit. He was very helpful and we had a great time on this beautiful Loch.

may be its my own fault, but a bunkhouse is nothing more than a bunkhouse. a 6 person bedroom with really bad matrasses, I almost didnt sleep. In the morning you can have some cereals and some coffee.
You pay 20£ per person for a night, but for 30£ you can have a private room en suite and a nice breakfast, so next time I know which I will be choosing...
Luckily its a clean place to stay, no complains about that.
The owner, Jock, also gives a strange impression. Kinda friendly, but needs to get paid as soon as possible. Some bad experiences?

Three of use stayed here on the first night of the WHW walk. Could not fault the place on anything. Jock greeted us and showed us around and was very helpful.
Accomodation was excellent, also free toast, cereal, tea, coffee etc what more could you ask for.
The house was clean and our bags dropped of by travel lite were even in our rooms when we arrived.
Would defo go back here. The location speaks for itself, stunning.

Room Tip: Perfect place to stay. Cant beleive some of the previous comments..

What a letdown! Basic accommodation. We had an uncomfortable stay. Place was not very clean and the shower was dirty with a loose tap on the basin. Hot water was scarce and after 2 showers there was none for the others. Owner met us briefly on arrival and we didn't see him again! We were told the rooms and cottage could be locked, but they were all broken. Disappointing.

Hi:
I am a bit saddened to see your review and feel it is a long way of the mark.
But of course you are entitled to your own personal opinion and I thank you for that.
To say our place is a Blot on the Landscape suggest that your opinion is very wrong and narrow minded.
The point about the tap is valid it was broken during your visit and you or your group did not report it to me or my wife. We will do our best to put it right in time for your next visit.
Both my wife and I live on the site 24/7 so to say you never seen us is a bit strange maybe you did not venture outside your room?.
I believe it is only right that guest are left to their own privacy without me come in and out of there home while they are staying at Balmaha House Bunkhouse as I am mostly on hand if required, all guest have to do is ask and Gwen and I will both go out of our way to ensure all guests are comfortable. We both wish you well for the future.

We stayed at the bunkhouse on the first night of the West Highland way. We were pleasantly surprised by all the facilities and free breakfast. It had everything we needed: Friendly owners, Wi-Fi, pots, pans, cutlery, mugs, bedding, weather reports etc, etc. It was truly a home from home!! It was the best on the way for me.Thanks and we will see you again!

Booked the Balmaha Bunk house as part of our West Highland Way Walk. We phoned two weeks prior to checking in and were told we could have the double room and pay cash on arrival. When we arrived it was to a very friendly welcome from the owner who was just back from dropping two walkers of at the camp site who had not booked, as the campsite was nearly two miles away we thought this was a nice thing to do. Our bag had arrived from the bag carrying company and was waiting for us in our room. We paid £40.00 for the room which was clean and ahad a great comfy and warm bed with an extra blanket, the toilet and shower were shared and even though the bunk house was full this did not present a problem, there was free tea and coffee in the downstairs kitchen and we were shown where to get our breakfast the next morning it was cereal and toast but if you wanted to cook there was the cooker and a shop. We ate in the pub across the road. We checked out the next morning at nine and did not see the owner again but we had a great night and would certainly use the bunkhouse again.

Room Tip: Book in advance if you want the double room as there are also dormitories and Balmaha gets really bu...
