We have just returned from two nights at the Waterhouse Inn, Balloch. The 'hotel' is not a hotel in the true sense of the word. It is an inn with rooms above, in a row of shops between a sandwich take away and a Chinese take away on a main road through the centre of Balloch. It has no car park, cars have to be parked in the municipal car park across the road (the car park forms part of the access to Balloch Castle Country Park and has a recreation ground adjacent). Having said that our car didn't come to any harm.
The rooms are quite spacious, well furnished and clean. Bathroom was small but with a large shower cubicle (no bath). Breakfast is served between 9 and 10, food was nicely served and was hot and tasty though you have the choice of cereal and toast or cooked, there was no opportunity to have juice, cereal, cooked and toast like you would expect in a hotel. We were in room 4 and were disturbed till into the early hours with noisy pipes and tanks filling so if we stayed again would opt for a different room. There was no noise from the bar down below.
It does not serve meals after 4pm though they did suggest various places to eat (we ate in the Italian restaurant [which does an early evening menu at a reduced price if you want it] and at the Hungry Monk in Gartochan (would recommend).
We paid £60 per night which is not expensive and I think I would stay again if I was in the area for one night, for any longer I think there are nicer and more scenic places to stay for much the same price or very little more.
