“So so”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

The Fixed menu looks ok on paper. I've been twice to this bar for lunch. Once a while back mackerel was on fixed menu.My husband and i ordered it only to be told later no mackerel left and it was 1 pm.. Mackerel must have been a rare fish.Next time i ordered caesar salad as a starter with bacon and croutons. Croutons were just white stale bread. When i complained i was told the chef would get less beer. Seems they get awarded a crate of beer for good comments but get a bottle taken away for a bad comment from a customer.. what did i get? nothing, not even the chefs confiscated beer!

“Nice setting average pub food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

Nice warm comfortable decorated family pub type restaurant - my second visit only because in the area and hungry and not many other nice places to choose from. Menu had too many things I dislike - chips, white wheat bread with lots of meals. Choose the soup again, last time it was cold and had to ask staff to heat hot. This time it was hot but bland and tasteless and came about 5 mins after all other meals. Again it only came with sliced white bread, I don't eat wheat and staff could not offer any alternatives ie. spelt, rye bread or oatcakes. Kids meal of steak was nice except for the chips which I don't like kids eating. Kids meals a good value/quality otherwise. Other meal was burger - again chips and white roll - not that healthy like most of the choices available. The puddings were very expensive - one chocolate trio £8.95!!

“Thought it would be pub grub, it was much more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

We were staying for a week in Scotland with friends. For our last night we thought we would give this place a try - we had phoned to book a table.
Extremely nice, warm atmosphere - there was a roaring log fire.
There is a wide choice of menu options - really good selection of speciality pies, all of which looked good. They had three real ales available - as they were unknown to use we were offered a taste of each to help us decide. Cannot remember now which one we had, but one of the nicest pints I have had in years.
The service was very good, the food was very good, the beer was very good....we had a great night. Extremely good value, if it was my local, I would be a regular customer.

“All downhill”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

We arrived with good expectations based on prior experience a year ago. The offer to sit 5 of us on a 'wee' table wasn't a good start and the inability to deliver a simple drinks order should have alerted us to the downhill slide in standards. The printed menus of the day (date included) contained items (the only veggie option on it) which when chosen were unavailable- not because they had run out but because the kitchen decided not to offer it & hadn't told the waiting staff.
Three of us ordered what we expected to be a wonderful salad selection topped by seared salmon...... What arrived was a poached salon, lukewarm, perched on top of 3-4 oldish looking romaine leaves. On pointing out the discrepancy between menu and dish on the table the waitress acknowledged that it appeared wrong and returned to the kitchen. Unfortunately the kitchen was in fact unable(?incapable, ??ingredients not available) to produce the correct order. Eventually we decided on a soup as a 'safe' option. The 'soup of the day' on the menu was advertised as a vegetarian option but we quickly realised that tomato & bacon soup didn't qualify for the 'v' assigned to it. Soup was okay- providing one set aside the fatty bacon lardons.
All in all a very disappointing experience. The duty manager did apologise but this hardly compensated for the fact that the plummeting standards of this hostelry detracted from our meal out with friends who had travelled far to join us.
The clashing cymbals of cutlery being hurled into its drawer didn't add to the ambience either!!
Such a pity that the standards and food quality has fallen so far.
We will not be enticed back so easily in future!

“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I have went to this restraunt on a few occaisions recenrly and have had no problems. The place has a very relaxing atmosphere and the food is usually very well prepared. However, you may have to order the steak a little more well done than normal. Other than this i can't fault. The staff are very attentive and can't do enough for you. The food is very well priced and depending where you sit you may get a veiw of tLoch Lomond.
