We stayed here a couple of years back and thought the hotel to be one of our inspired choices then. Well we've just been back and you do wonder if a re-visit will be as pleasing an experience, well, the reality is it's even better. The food has to be knocking on the doors of three AA rosettes. We're no experts, but do like to sample good restaurants and coming from London, there's plenty to choose from here in the South East. In our opinion the cuisine is exceptional. Last time we commented on how informal yet still quality, the hotel managed to portray itself, well we're pleased to state that hasn't changed. It's lovely to just sit in a chair in the drawing room, chilling out, with that wonderful view over the loch and mountains. Lastly, the staff have got the balance between attention and leaving you in peace absolutely 'spot on', well done. We have agreed that we will definitely feature this hotel a bit more often into our travel plans, especially as the two dogs are welcome.

My husband and I have stayed at Kilcamb several times and each time surpasses the last. It is the most perfect getaway - both food and accommodation always exceed our expectations. Fine dining is not an every day experience and, at Kilcamb, we feel it is worth every penny. The chef has changed since our previous stay and we found his menu let the ingredients do the talking. Our room was a beautifully appointed loch view suite with everything in place we could have wished for. And special thanks must go to Phillip and his team for making our stay as wonderful as ever. If you are looking for total relaxation with some stunning Scottish scenery and country house style thrown in - Kilcamb is the place for you (and us!).

Our bedroom in the Kilcamb was lovely. Great selection of full sized toiletries in the bathroom! The staff were friendly and they made our dog welcome. However, we looked at the dinner menu and didn't fancy the complicated, expensive menu so we ate at the more down to earth Strontian hotel. Breakfast was tasty. The hotel did seem expensive, however, for such an out of the way place and we found that other hotels in the area provided better value accommodation. I think that it was just a bit over sophisticated for a stop over on our trip.

Yes beautiful location and yes with all the pretensions of a five star luxury getaway. The food was not only seriously overpriced, it was over blown, over fussy, over tasteless and verging on the inedible. Too many restaurants are posing as fine dining establishments when they haven't got the basics right- like taste, flavour, seasonality. The glasses are gleaming, the plates fancy and the portions tiny but the food was badly cooked and not worthy of one never mind two rosettes. There is also a big question mark about who is actually doing the cooking- we did not see the Chef or have a chance to talk to him/her even although we were clearly dissatisfied. The room was nothing special- no shower, no special touches, poor lighting, badly maintained. Obviously some other commenators had a better deal. We paid full rack rates swept along by all the hype and our experience was in no way up to scratch.

To our other guests who endured the unpleasant atmosphere and embarrassment created by Tarafife on the 13th July, we would like to apologise and to thank you for your patience, understanding and support.

To our staff and especially our Head Chef who were subjected to unjustified, unqualified and discourteous remarks, from Tarafife, we salute you for your professional and dignified fortitude.

With 90% approbation from Trip Advisor members together with the fulsome praise and compliments our head chef received from all our other diners, in a full restaurant on 13th July 2009; no further comment is necessary.

This place is truly wonderful - the setting, the hotel, food and staff - all make for an extraordinary stay. For us, this time only one night, it is magical. What is brilliant is that whether you are staying for one night or longer the welcome and attention are the same.
Philip and his team are very professional - polite, kind and with a sense of humour that so enhances the stay. The rooms and bathrooms are so clean and comfortable - the bed is to die for. The food is amazing, so beautifully presented and served and tastes delicious - it has taken on the personality of the chef.

There is only one thing better than visiting Kilcamb and that is returning again for as you drive or walk down that steep driveway you physically feel all stress draining away from you and feel that here 'all will be right with the world'!

Kilcamb Lodge Hotel sits on the shore of Loch Sunart in 22 acres of wild flower meadow and woodland.Otters and red deer visit regularly and the beauty of the area offers unsurpassed views, walks and beaches.Mull,Skye and the Trenish Isles are all highly accessible from the hotel and we managed a couple of day trips which were quite unforgettable,in particular the Puffins on Staffa and the freshest seafood lunch in Cafe Fish,Tobermory overlooking the harbour-- would highly recommend both!

The beautifully appointed rooms at the hotel, have lovely comfy king beds with many thoughtful extras like guest umbrellas, bath robes and luxury toiletries. We particulary liked the chilled ice water provided on arrival to our room.Ours overlooked Loch Sunart and the mountains.Sunrise was a sight to behold as it peeked over the mountain opposite our window and bathed the Loch with colours of red and gold.

Reception rooms exude style, comfort and quality and that same quality is echoed in the staff and the excellent service they provide, headed by the General Manager Phillip Fleming. There is a genuine ethos of guest care at Kilcamb Lodge which is evident from the moment you walk through the door.Nothing is too much trouble and the staff could not have been more friendly and professional.

The restaurant at Kilcamb delivers high standards in terms of the food, ambiance and the service.Dinner comprises of several delicious courses prepared with a high degree of skill and flair and each night the dinning experience was eagerly anticipated as the daily changing menu was to be found in our room when we returned from our adventures.Gourmet nights on Wensdays and Saturdays are a highlight. We particularly enjoyed the fresh natural flavours of the food, which were a strong feature.Nothing over seasoned allowing the combinations, natural flavours and freshness of the ingredients to dominate. The chef is only 28 years old but shows a culinary depth and sophistication, which belies his youth.

Kilcamb Lodge has managed to achieve that special blend of charm, uniqueness, quality and professional service where guests immedediately feel transported out of the commonplace and into the rare. And there is a refreshing lack of the pretence that so often accompanies such quality establishments.

what a find -- we shall be returning in September and can,t wait.
